3 Way Rocker Switch Help Needed

Need help wiring a 3 way, 6 prong, rocker switch. Following a video I found on youtube ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp6bhGLpJIg ) for auxiliary lights with back up lights, and almost have a complete understanding of it besides how the rocker switch should be hooked up.

Set up:

Position 1: Auxiliary lights on, with key off, no reverse lights.

Position 2: Auxiliary lights off, back up lights on when put into reverse.

Position 3: Auxiliary lights and back up lights on when put into reverse.

Based on the below diagram, how should the rocker switch be hooked up?

Feel free to update and repost the diagram or simply tell me which post (letter) should be hooked up to the fuse block and or relay number.

Thank you!!

Edit: Removed picture to avoid confusion, see below for final diagram

That switch will have a set of contacts for the 3 positions. A hot leg and a output to the relay.

For position one, run a wire from the battery to one side of the switch and run the output to the aux lights.

For the second, run a wire from your reverse light to the same side of the switch under the constant 12v from your battery. Then run the output to a relay for your back up lights.

For the third, run a wire from your fuse block to the power side of your switch, then the putout to the two relays you want to power.

Thanks, I think we got it... check this out, seem correct to you? Position 2 will not be used as it will just be the normal back up lights. So no need to connect anything to it correct?

No, use position 2 like I said and run it through the relay. That back up light circuit can't handle hardly anything else with it.

I think youve got this covered in your latest diagram, but to the last poster, if he occupies position 2 as well, what will be off? I always thought those dp/dt switches only had two "power" positions.

Same here. Top =on circuit 1
middle =off both circuits
bottom =on circuit 2

Unless it's an actual 3 pole 3 throw switch. Haven't seen one of those but it doesn't mean there not out there

IT is not going to work, on a DPDT switch the center is the common.As per your diagram
when you put it in pos # 1 C is going to feed A and in position #3 is going to feed E, on the other side of the switch D in pos # 1 is going to feed B and i pos #3 is going to feed F.
There is not continuity between A and B and E and F.

thanks for the replies everyone, prcherokee should it look like this? if so I could just go with a 3 prong switch vs a 6 prong correct?

Correct!

Pos 1, Aux lights on, even with key off, reverse lights will work like normal and only turn on when reverse is engaged.
Pos 2, Aux lights off, nothing being done by switch. Reverse lights will work like normal and only turn on when reverse is engaged.
Pos 3, Aux lights and reverse lights on only when reverse is engaged.

Yes that will work,and you can use a spdt switch instead of a dpdt switch.
spdt = single pole double throw.
dpdt= double pole double throw.
