Maybe you should do a vid. I have a 3.5 OME lift with the same shocks and it rides about the same as stock. Definitely never hit a bump that caused me pain.

 

This like many things fit the category "of one size does not fit all" you can't do everything with one Jeep or Car for sure. I found out many yrs. ago not to make your daily driver into a toy, one will have to give to the other and usually sooner than later.

 

If you love your Jeep and want to modify it, then:

1) You will love it even more after lifting it
2) You will realize it's an ongoing project no matter what you do to it!

Get a pair of Ome 150lb coils for about 140 bucks, add a 1.25"coil spacer, you now have 3" lift. My 3.5" short arm Ome lift rides great, way better than stock. If your planning on a heavy bumper and winch combo u might want to look at the 180lb springs, I can feel the weight of the winch When I install it into the receiver but that's not often enough for me to sacrifice the smooth non winch ride the 150 lb springs offer for the daily drive.everyone I wheel with drives an xj, mine is the only ome lifted Jeep and it defiantly without a doubt rides the smoothest. It pays off in the bush 2, where the stiff trucks are rocking left and right my soft truck stays very level and the suspension does the work.ya can't go wrong with the ome stuff if your looking for ride quality

Torque your suspension with the weight of the vehicle on it and throw all the polyurethane in the fire pit and get some OEM rubber

 

Im running a 3" rustys with the hd coils, and having driven MANY jeeps with various lifts and heights, mine drives better than most. Stock arms with new bushings, cheapo monroe shocks and 33's.

To the OP, agony, whats your sway bar situation look like?

 

Links should be longer, but I don't have any complaints about the way my XJ handles side-to-side or how it (hardly) leans in turns.

 

Yeah but if there not right they could inhibit your suspension, if they're really bad it could help cause your jeep to ride like a dump truck. Were any modifications done to them to match the lift height?

The difference in ride quality before and after is like night and day. It rides so much better now. Big bumps are now absorbed into the springs instead of my kidneys, and I can feel those OME shocks doing their job. It's pleasurable to drive now.
It's still a bit stiff in the rear, as I think the shackle angle is still too oblique. But the rear was never the biggest issue. I'll adjust those again later.
My control arms are now nearly parallel with the ground. Given the previous symptoms - the way it felt to hit big bumps in the road - I feel confident in saying that poor control arm angles were preventing the suspension from working correctly. And until I ride in one that feels even half as nice as mine does now, I will never recommend anyone go with a 3" lift on an XJ intended for street and highway usage.

 

Mine rides great with Teraflex adjustable uppers and lower arms, 10" travel Bilstein 5100's and RE springs. Rides like a caddy on road nice and smooth offroad when crawling and hauling *** at 40-60 in the desert
