3.07 regear questions

I have an 88 xj manual with 3.07 and I want to go with 4.56s for 32s I'm buying soon. All of the ring and pinion kits say that it is compatible with carriers with 3.73 and higher for d30 and d35

Does this mean that I can't regear it because I have 3.07s?
Thanks in advance and I will also be throwing an Aussie Locker in the back and lsd in the front.

No it just means you will have to buy a new carrier

Yeah they make two carriers one for smaller gears one for bigger gears.Honestly i would lose the dana 35 for a chrysler 8.25 it will bolt in.And what your gonna spend to buy a new carrier and a lunch box locker you can almost buy a full size locker that replaces the carrier.

Search Thick gears no carrier change needed.1990 and down do not have c clip dana 35s many hear run them with bigger tires with no issues. If a 97 and up 8.25 is ava grab it and regear no carrier change is needed for it. Also being manual trans 456 will be a big differencs 410s from a 4cyl cherokee would be bolt in and go. Just get high pinion front. Automatics need taller gears than stick thats why there 355 instead of 307 from factory.

I have a 35 in my small block XJ, No problems in the 3+ years of driving it. It's an 86 too. Bolt in axles.

So a full carrier Detroit Locker Will allow for a regear? Thanks for all the replies this forum is the best!

SeriousOffroad 10-02-2015 01:42 PM

Yes it will, as long as you order one for 3.73 & up.

OK so my dad is going to buy Detroit full carrier lockers and 5.29 for his 89 Jeep yj 4cyl and since those are 4.10 I might be able to get his carriers and ring and pinions. Would those be compatible with my xj and would I have to buy a different Aussie Locker for a slightly larger carrier?

SeriousOffroad 10-02-2015 03:09 PM

As long as you both have the same axles...

freegdr 10-02-2015 09:00 PM

Your xj 4.0 .Id just swap both front complete axles .No regear for you then if both rears are dana 35s his carrier will work if you decide to go 410. Save money

SeriousOffroad 10-02-2015 10:29 PM

YJ's are SUA, XJ'S are SOA

freegdr 10-03-2015 12:22 AM

Forgot yjs are leaf front and rear. At least ya can use rear carrier if fronts high pinion use it also,
.

Aussie Lockers can fit in any carrier for that axle type, independent of the gearing. The OE manufacturers only wanted to stock 1 set of spider gears, even if there were 2 carriers for the various gear ratios, the ID of the carriers are the same for each axle style and spline count.
