So im going to be running 35s and im going to upgrade my axle shafts with alloy USA in the rear. for the front, i want to know if adding the 760X spicer u joints and reinforcing the ears with these http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=XDT will be sufficient enough with my OEM axle shafts to run 35" tall tires. my jeep is a 98 that was made at the end of december, so the door jam says 98 but the manual says 99, but it has ABS so it should have the beefier axle shafts if im correct?

 

If you have abs, that means you have a Dana 35 in the rear. I wouldn't suggest running 35's on it. Your better off getting an 8.25 from a 97-01 to replace the rear. And you should get chromalley shafts for the front. They sell 1541h shafts for the Chrysler 8.25 if you want to beef it up and they're cheap compares to the shafts for the front.

I wouldn't bother wasting the money on upgrading a Dana 35.

 

No I don't have a d35 I have an 8.25..maybe I don't have ABS I'm not positive, how do I check? the shafts for the front as so expensive which is why I think beefing up the ears and getting 760 u joints is the better option or me..what I'm asking is how would the 35s hold up with that route on my front axle and some alloy USA rear shafts for my 8.25...I don't think I need chromo because I'm not locking it

 

If you have an 8.25 you do not have ABS

 

Look at your rear axle housing. If it is flat on bottom, it's an 8.25. If its an oval shape, it's a Dana 35. That upgrade kit iron rock sells I think you have to weld on. And when you think about it, how would you replace u joints with those welded on? It never really made sense to me. I'm sure someone will chime in on it but I do not think the front would last long without chromo shafts and better u joints. If its a hp 30, and your really easy on it until you get money, it may work but I wouldn't risk it

 

I'm positive I have an 8.25 haha that's not what this thread is about..Iro make an axle shaft kit for the d30 and it's 297 shaft...would that be sufficient? Otherwise, who makes a good cheap axle shaft for the d30

 

I bought a set of front axle shafts from IRO that came with 760x joints and the tabs welded on the ears. So far i think they're great! I talked to the guys over at IRO before I bought them and they had a lot of good info as to why they have this setup. I'd recommend giving them a call and ask them yourself.

 

With larget joints your shafts become the weak link. carry spares with spare unit bearings attatched, makes the swap much easier.

 

those things from IRO are stupid in my opinion. what if you want to change out a u-joint? any u-joint is breakable too. i break my 297 joints with 33x10.5 tires. just gotta know when to let off.

 

Yeah, thats what I thought also. Guess I'm the guinea pig, I'll let you know when they break and I'm screwed due to the welded caps

 

Why don't you just grind out the stock shafts to take full circle clips?

 

dont bother with those things. just do a DOM truss and ABS shafts with spicers. if that's not enough it's chromos or nothing. or the proper fix, an axle swap

 

if i go to the jy and get some front axle shafts out of a cherokee with ABS, are those 29 spline?

 

All d30 shafts are 27spline

 

gotcha, so what is the difference between the shafts out of a cherokee with abs and one without?
