I'd still buy longer shocks. I had a 2" inch lift before and my front shocks ended up buckling.

You don't want this! Happened to me also. Stock shocks break easy after continuous over extension. Your stock brakelines will be fine up to 3-3.5" lift, varies depending on your jeep. Im at 3.5-4" and my brakelines still have plenty of slack.

I think you'll be fine. But, like said, over flex it and you could risk destroying shock AND new, proper length ones, will probably improve ride quality a bit..

Bar pin eliminators are a good way to extend shock length by an inch or so. These are what I have, 1.25 inch shock extension.

how would it rotate the shock 90? all it does is replace the stock bar pin with a different one... and why would rotating a shock be bad?

With 2" lift:

If you have front and rear sway bars installed and never disconnect them you'll be ok. If you disconnect the front sway bar and flex it out the front shocks will max out (extension). If you disconnect the rear sway bar or do not have a rear sway bar and you flex out the rear, the rear brake line will not be long enough. It will pull into.

I put a 2 inch lift on my XJ, well wife drives it mostly, and I just bought some jk shocks. I believe that's right. Their stock shocks fit an xj with 2-4 inches of lift. And I have a very nice ride still. Got them for $60 shipped for all four.

X2 if you have stock shocks after so many years do yourself a favor get new shocks for 2" lift.

Edit: also this is not a dumb question cause I wish I bought new shocks when I did my BB.
