1998 xj has very bad fuel/ exhaust smell.
So for the past few days its been in the single digita here and the truck has been running like crap. The check engine light keeps coming on nd then it goes away for a day or two. So neways. When im at a light the idle drops kinda low. Under 850. And when that happens the motor starts clinking and it stinks like a old deisel truck. It almost sounds like the gears are loose.
I hope it just needs a tune up? I bought a whole mopar tune up kit with copper plugs rotar cap nd plugs etc. just waiting on them to get here. Also waiting on my thermostat and gasket. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to chime in because i am new to this jeep thing.

i got mine for 3150 and ran perfect. honestly. the bad smell started after i took it out mudding a couple times so it just might be bad smelling burnt mud somewhere or something. my exhaust also got deeper and guntier. might be crack at collector or something. **** breaks when you play.

Well here on long island there isnt many places to go besides the powerlines so ive never been wheeling before lol. Most ive done so far was a muddy soupy dirt path and the beach. As far as plans goes. It pretty mich has everything. 4 inch old man emu lift. 31 inch new tires. Has surco roof rack. I just bought an adjustable track bar feom rough country since my truck still has the crappy stock one. Maybe eventually i will stuff some 33's under it. Right now i just wanna get it running how it should be and then im gonna get me some roof lights and fix the heat and get the ac working.

nice! seems like a real good setup. mines completely stock now. but iv already bought and have Rubicon Express 3.5 lift, Bilstein 5100 shocks, 31x10.5 KM2s & cragar v5's. all i need now to finish my lift is an IronrockOffroad double shear track bar, rugged ridge SYE, and a front DS from a diner XJ. there aren't any rocks or amazing trails in orlando so i mainly just go mudding lol.

I had a rough idle and bad smell not so long ago. Although the car was stumbling when I was driving so I don't know if that happens to you too. I didn't have any CE light nor did it throw me any code but when I went to get it checked, the guy told me it was an o2 sensor (the one before the cat I think, don't know if it matters). Got that changed and it's fine now.
Could be something else though.
