1990 XJ bendix(ABS) removal question

I have recently acquired a 90 xj with abs. I here nothing but bad things and when i got it the master cylinder was out and still is. I would like to remove the system and change it for either a new abs system or get rid of abs. I havent found a clear cut answer on which is the easiest thing to do. I saw some info about maybe putting a 95-96 system on. My question is what all do i need to remove and replace. And from what years can i find the best parts to do so.

Thanks in advance

thanks for the info. does the donor jeep need to have abs? im not very proficient in brakes so im not sure what im looking for in a donor.

is a same year none abs system a quick bolt on or do i need to remove/replace more things than just the mas cyl/booster?

ok so on doing some looking around at my new jeep i noticed that the brake system looks nothing like the removed parts from the swap write ups ive been seeing. maybe you guys can help me identify the system and or problems. one problem is that when you pump the pedal enough it will lose pressure and the pump will continue to run and take a long time to build pressure.

What you can do is remove all that whole system swap in the 95 and up booster and master I don't know if the proportion valve is different but it might be.

I also have the whole abs system off my parts jeep still pump and everything if I remember right if you want to attempt to fix it.

Most likely you're seeing writeups for upgrading brakes to a dual diaphram system. Once you remove the abs pump and master cylinder its pretty much the same procedure. Just make sure you get a proportioning valve from a donor that was non-abs. Also keep the fittings from the donor system that connect to the mc and proportioning valve. The abs system fittings are different. I just did the abs removal mod and that advice was great. Once u get the master cylinder out, you should have three lines...one for each front wheel and one for the rear. Plump everything, bleed well and you should be in business. I found a lot of good info using google as well as the forum for the abs delete mid on these jeeps.

Thanks for all the replies. So the alternator was bad and upon changing i have solid pressure in the brake system. not for if it was a lack of proper power to the system or what but ill probably just drive the thing until it fails and then consider a swap.

Thanks again. i can always count on the xj community for help!!!!:thumbup1:
