I was wanting to take the transmission from my wrecked 2001 jeep cherokee rwd and put it in my 1990 jeep cherokee 4x4. Is this possible?

 

i don't think so. 23 spline vs 21 spline.
i was gonna do it years ago, but read about the different spline counts. not sure if it's just for the transfer case, in that case, you could either use the 01 transfer case, or swap shafts in the transfer case with the 21 spline that is in the 90 transfer case.

 

Will not work. AW4 (transmission in the XJs) is different from 2WD to 4WD.

 

oops, didn't even notice that. bad's right. 2wd trans won't go into a 4x4

 

Supposedly 97 down are all interchangeable as far as the cps compatability. 1990 down are 21 spline,1991 up are 23 spline output for the t case.
