Default 16 volt alt

My buddy came by and had a 16 volt/140 amp alternator on his truck. He said he had no issues so far.Battery and lights were OK ,so far.
In the 60's, I kept the 6 volt starter when I converted my VW's to 12 volt without issue.
What do you all think? I can also buy a 16 volt battery, but with 14+ volts going into my system now,I don't see another 1 1/2 volt more hurting anything.I do mountain SAR. I run lots of lights and a big winch.

16V alternators are used in racing circles - with special batteries (there's a full 16V for starting high-compression engines, and a second tap to allow for 12VDC to power everything else.)

I wouldn't want to run a 16V alternator too long with a 12V battery - you'll eventually melt it down from overvoltage overcharging.

Default thank you

That makes sense. I will just upgrade my alt.
