Default 15x7 wheels w/ 35x12.50 tire?

Ive been shopping for a set of 35x12.50 tires and new wheels for a while now. I know I want a set of 35x12.50R15 tires. I cant decide between BFG KM/2s, Goodyear M/T Rs, Mickey Thompson MTZ, or Nitto Trail Grapplers, but thats for a different thread lol

Anyway! I was originally planning to get 15x8 wheels, but talking to people on Desert Rangers, and JeepSpeed people, I got the thought of running 15x7 wheels. I found the Method Racing "The Standard" wheels, and really like them. 15x7, with 3.75 backspacing would fit very nice I think.

But is a 35x12.50 tire on a 15x7 wheel not good? Pics would be nice if anyone has them

I think the 7" rim would be fine, there's a lot of guys running 12.5" wide tires on stock (7") rims.

However, before the BFG and Goodyear guys show up to start arguing the best tire, check out Dick Cepek Mud Country's...they're awesome. I say take the Nitto Tail Grabbers off you list and add the Cepek's for consideration.

I had a set of km1's on my truck...they were so-so. I was reading a mud-tire shoot-out on one of the offrad magazine's websites and the MTZ was the only tire they rated above the Cepek Mud Country. Fitting considering they're made by the same company. I just liked the looks (and price) of the Cepek's better...

Mine were a tad more than that, but they're metrics (16" wheels). The same size MTZ's were a little higher than my Cepeks...but still considerably cheaper than km2's.

Ive ran 31" Km2s, 33" Km1s, and 35" km2s.
And 35" MTZs.

I personally like km1s better than km2s..and MTZs better than any tire ive ran.

We have dry rock, slick rock, dirt, red clay, and mud here (even though I tend to stay out of mud).

They grip like crazy on anything ive had em on. Wear nicely on teh street too.

You'll be fine with that set up. They might bulge in the center of the tread also so you might have to play with your air pressure to get an even wear pattern.

I baught a set of 35" km2's new and they didn't hook for **** (east coast wheeling) so I sold them within two months to get TSL's.

I'm pretty sure 31 is the max tire size RECOMMEND for a 15x7 sure it might work but doesn't seem like a great idea. Why not just get 15x8s? Mine were 196 bucks for all 4.

Diameter of the tire has nothing to do with what size rim you can use lol.
It's the width.
He will be fine running a 12.5 wide tire in a 7" wheel.
It will bulge the sidewalks like I said before...but it will work

Okay I get what you mean. I remember seeing a thread on here saying 31s which are usually 10.50 is the max recommendation for 15x7. Probably because having bulged out sidewalls could be dangerous? Lol I'd imagine it'd be way easier to puncture with nails and such. But ya I get how it'd work.

From what ive read, the narrower the rim the more force is put on the tire bead to keep it on the rim. therefore you can air down more than say a 10'' rim. Im ok with the bulging tire sidewall and i like how skinny it can make the tire look, even though its still a 12.5 wide tire.
I got the idea from this guy on Desert Rangers. His Tacoma has 35x12.50 KM1s on 15x7 KMC wheels. Heres his awesome rig...
