Default 15 inch vs. 16 inch tire question

I have an 01 XJ, getting ready to put a lift on it. Wanted to run 31's, what's the 16 inch equivalent of 31's?
TIA,

I run 265/75/16 which is about a 32"
It's better in UK as landrovers have 16" wheels so tyres in this size are easier to come buy usually a tad cheaper.

When I bought new wheels/tire's it took me a while to make up my mind (I had 15x8 wheel's with 31" tires then) between the 2 sizes 15 or 16's. After debating it for several months I decided to go with the 15" tires because of the shear abundance of them, along with prices were cheaper in most sizes up to 40+"'s new and used over the 16's.

This is JMHO and what I found in my search. I now run 2 different sets of wheels a set of Cragar Soft Eights 15x8's with 33x12:50x15's and a set of beadlocks with 35x12:50x15's sometimes.

Others may have different ideas I'm sure I must have missed some also.

A lot of the 16" tires have "E" load ratings. For a cherokee, you will want tires with a "C" rating.

Are you buying new wheels? If so you should go up to 17" since that's where all the Truck and SUV tires are at nowadays.

No new wheels, I like the stock rims and they are in great shape. Just putting a 2inch lift on it. Has 225's now, may go up to 245 or maybe 255 if they fit. All we do is run the beach and I need some more float, not too worried about articulation.

If you intend to keep the stock rims, I highly recommend 15" tires

Why....won't a 16" tire fit right on a 15" rim

You need wider tires and play with psi for better grip over the sand. For reference, check the specs of Toyo Open Country AT
See 31X10.50R15LT 109S C/6 has overall 30.5inches overall diameter with good width for sand.

It's got 225/70/16 on it now, so I assumed it has 16 inch rims.guess I got to check the Owner's manual on that. Got a few year (40+) running in the sand, so I hear you on the PSI.

No need to check the manual, if the tire says it is a 16" tire, the rim will be a 16", and if the manual says otherwise, then someone changed rims on it already.

If you have 16s, I'm pretty sure they aren't stock. The door sill should have the stock tire size listed.

You are going to want flexible sidewalls for airing down in sand so look for "C" load rating on the tires as the "D" and "E" ratings are for heavier pickups/suvs and will be stiff.
