10" lift steering and track bar help
Trying to track down a few problems
1.my track bar is shot and need input on what to do next... build a new one or buy one for 8+ inches of lift 2. My steering is all over the road....everything is brand new steering wise drag link, pitman arm is super dropped, tie rod ends and new heavy duty stableizer thinking I might have to go with high steer to get a better angle Any help is greatly appreciated thanks |
Trade for a "Swamp Buggy" ??? 8>)
Don't know most don't quite that high with a lift, what size tires are you running 38, 40's? I guess you have at least I ton steering don't you, IDK so will shut up and refer to a crawler for info. I'm lost here more info would help on what pieces you are using in the steering now. |

And brand new "stock" drag link with rough country stabilizer and beefed up track bar with 35" mud tires This is with 36" tsl super swampers 10 inch lift |
If you cut the fenders you can lower it do to 6 inches and have a lot less problems.

^ That for starters^
Lowering it at least much will help you a lot in steering, MPG's and general driving with roll over chances. Then at the "Very Least a tie rod setup from a mid 90's V-8 GC much stronger than stock, direct bolt-in and under a $100 at AutoZone. Or a 1 ton setup but a lot more money. Are you running 4.56 or 4.88 gears in it now to turn those tires with lockers in both? I think you have the same bumper that I have on mine. Attachment 312968 |

Christ on a cracker, did you buy it with the steering that jacked up. Either you lower her to a more acceptable range or you go with 1 ton OTK steering. There should be nothing stock steering on a jeep lifted like that

Wow!
That's... scary. You drive this thing? 1. Your steering needs a serious makeover. 2. Your caster angle is way off and is most likely the largest contributing factor to the wandering. Not to mention the bald tires, insane steering angles and height to width ratio. |

the short arms are killing you too, even if the steering was tight, it would still ride like ****....
grab a dust boot while you are at it.... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...422575f3ef.jpg |

correct all Cherokees do, yours is a short arm, still using the factory uca and lca mount locations, kind of like a tyrannosaurus rex arm.

1 ton over the knuckle steering. Change the track bar to an OTK steering set up.
Florida is famous for it's mud and swamps. This most likely tackles them. |
In short your Jeep is UNSAFE with its current steering, your just asking for something to break or bend and send yourself into another car(s) or pedestrian(s)
It is also unsafe going with 10" of lift and not wider axles/stance, you are just asking to roll it. 10" of lift = 40-42" tires which = one ton axles I agree with what many posted here, I would lower the vehicle down myself. But if you want to keep it that high, then look at one of the many quality OTK "Over The Knuckle" steering setups, and a double sheer track bar for OTK setup. Anything over 4.5" lift with 33" tires you need to start looking at upgraded steering, anything over 6" lift and 35" tires you need to look at upgrading axles. Do yourself a favor (and the world driving around you), and FIX IT RIGHT !!!!! |
Newer pic after modification

I mean.... I'm just curious where the rocks are in Florida that requires that kind of lift... without rolling over.... And if it's deep mud you're looking for, good luck with those tires hahaha.... Oh wait, this thread is like 5 years old.....

Tall lifts are dumb. You see them a lot in Florida too... makes you think...
(I lived in Florida and wheeled there with people on this forum so I can say that and it's okay lol) |
You lift according to how and what you wheel.
|
I'd run it. Probly with flat top knuckles with one ton steering over the steering arm. Might drive decent then but would take alot of work and have mis matched wheels

I was bored and planning on replacing headlamps eventually anyway so I experimented with some slight angry eyebrows. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...97658192c.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0eaa0c5c4.jpeg New tires! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...047b2c7d3.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d935aa1734.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...4bdb77630.jpeg Bumper on! |

Bump
This is so old the kid probably does not even own that XJ anymore.lol
curious if he ever got it fixed, also don't you just drill a new hole further out on the axle side track bar mount? |
Closing the thread. No need to revive this.
