I have a 2000 XJ and at 148,000 miles the head cracks. I found a 2000 Grand Cherrokee totaled and the motor was fine.I bought it after calling Advanced Auto and doing some cross references to make sure everything will work.So I go buy a new water pump, thermostat, timing chain, spark plugs, rear main seal and oil/filter.Everything was going smoothly until it came time to bolt the alternator bracket on and there's no bolt holes.
Always something. So heads up if anyone is going to try this.

Well got some more to add to my post about the 2000 motor change. Looks like there's more to it than just the alternator bolt holes missing. The motor mounts are different and the oil filter comes out in a different way also.So instead of spending a week modding a bunch of stuff, I'm taking the good head off the 00 ZJ motor and putting it on my 00 XJ motor and putting it back in. So now it looks like I have a((( 2000 ZJ i6 bottom end for sale!!! ))))
