Cool Aotearoa New Zealand thread!

Kia ora koutou!!
Howdy!

Wanted to start up this thread in case any other Aotearoa-based Jeepers wanted to say hi and talk shop about Jeepin' here in NZ.

Some starter questions/prompts in case anyone needs 'em:
  • What's your Cherokee?
  • What do you use your rig for?
  • What region are you based in? (any good spots for Jeep activities?)
  • Do you know where your Jeep's from? (I found it fun to try and trace back what country my XJ was imported from/exported to originally)
  • Go-to parts sources/sellers?
  • What got you into Jeeps/Cherokees?
  • Any fun facts about your experiences or a little bit about yourself?

Any out-of-towners or foreigners welcome to chat too if there's any questions or curiosities about the subject of Jeeps+NZ.

Thanks for reading, drive safe

Hey there just jumping in here with one question, what’s your go to parts place? Pretty much only using Rock Auto but wondering if there’s something closer that has competitive pricing?

Kia ora! Sorry for the much late reply. To answer you— I'm pretty much the same. Rock Auto has been such a surprising resource for me: decently affordable, easy to navigate, not bad on shipping prices, and nearly everything one could need for replacement parts; but I get that the time to wait isn't convenient and that not everything is the best price-wise (so far, all the parts I've gotten have been great and reliable quality for the prices, at the very least).

Unfortunately, only one other 'specialist' place I've gotten parts from: Trundles Automotive , suspension parts (new shocks). otherwise I'll hit the ol' Repco or Supercheap Auto for the general stuff, except oil filters; on TradeMe there's a seller (Miles Filters) that makes filters here in NZ and it's been a good comfort getting an OEM equivalent oil filter for a bargain of a price. There used to be a 4x4 parts drop-shipper here that I heard was really good for some Jeep parts but they sold and got bought-out awhile ago and I haven't heard much about them since. I'm not that savvy on resources at the moment, so I won't be much help, but if I come across good parts sources I'll try to come back to this thread with updates.

If you ever need: there's a couple Facebook groups for NZ Jeeps and they're all generally quite friendly; there is a specific one that might be helpful for your parts query and any others XJ related— the group's name is "Jeep XJ ZJ and WJ Freaks NZ", the people in there are friendly and big nerds. Good folk.
