Explorer would do better in some situations than an xj, and vise versa. They have different wheel bases by far, and handle completly different.

Argue all you want, but you can't really compare built 4x4s without the same driver driving both. That's my opinion.
X2... You beat me to it.

And don't hold it against the guys with explorers. When it comes down to it they are just the same as us xj owners. They love their rigs...and the forum members are just as willing to help out others like the members here. We're all just car guys with something in common. Who cares what they drive?! at least they don't own 4runners lol buy American!! Haha yes that's hypocritical I know lol

Toyota makes vehicles that are better than either.

Lol. No, im just not in to the body style. I line an aggressive look and toyota lacks that. Their body styling is a bit plain for my taste.

On the reliability note none of my xj's have ever left me stranded, so I don't think reliability is a valid argument. There are many vehicles out there that many consider unreliable, but if the owners took care of them a little better they wouldn't break down all the time. Toyota's, Jeeps, Fords, and Chevy's all have there faults, but its up to the owner to fix them before they get out of hand. I have seen my fair share of Toyota's dead on the side of the road, just like I have seen my fair share of jeeps dead on the side of the road.

Come on guys no need to get all but hurt. I was just poking fun.

If I thought xjs were that bad I wouldn't have picked up the 87 I currently have. That said I prefer toyotas but is just a preference thing.

I was disappointed at the fact that the xjs 4wd system eas as unreliable as it was when I got it but a few hours work and it is reliable again.

man i have a 94 toyota pickup, that thing has been such a pain. It had so many issues and only 130K miles, not to mention so much rust it's not even funny. i know my jeep is a 2000, but it's got 150K miles and it had a bad U jont and that's it. toyota isn't nearly what people think they are. not only that, they've only recently developed a v6 that's worth anything. those 3.0s are turds that blow head gaskets like crazy, and even the 3.4, which is a good engine, had some issues.

Of course you are 100% right (even allowing for the anomaly known as luck). You sir have earned my respect with that single comment ...

Altho you dared to compare the 'Sploder with the revered XJ. . No worries ... I like to stir the pot. All in good fun.

If I wanted Junk I would have bought a toyota.. Needed something reliable and offroad capable.. So I chose Jeep.. No regrets in buying the best offroad brand to ever exist
I've seen rangers do ok on mild trails so I'd expect the same from exploders.
