Just looking for a decent set of black rubber floor mat that fit decently or can be trimmed to fit decently AND don't cost a boatload of money.

If price was not a factor, these Rugged Ridge mats look pretty sweet. However ~$65 for just a front set is steep...

Anyone out there found a bargain on a set of mats that are a good fit for an XJ? For me, I would consider $50 for a front and back seat set to be reasonable.

 

I was going to say Rugged Ridge (or Quadratec if you prefer, but they're identical rebadges of RR liners) because there's nothing better imo, but then you said they're too expensive for you.

I have the RR/Quadratec liners and feel the price was totally worth it, but...Are Husky liners any cheaper?

Ever since getting my mats and seeing the fit of Husky liners in my bro-in-law's Impala, I can't live without high-lipped, fitted liners anymore. Such things do not exist for my Metro, and the thought of having to settle for cut-to-fit generic mats is really a bummer.

 

I never would have bought husky liners but they came with my last Cherokee and now I can't live without them.

If the rugged ridge ones are too expensive for you then I have no clue. They are definitely a well worth it purchase, have survived two jeeps and are going strong still.

The Husky liners look nice too but they also look to be even more expensive. Pretty cool that your Cherokee came with them. Mine came with two rubber "welcome mats" in the front...

 

Shamed...I broke down and got a front set (for now). They are really nice mats.




For now I left the "welcome mats" in the back. These were the only mats in the car when I bought it...

 

Wow that interior is in really, really good shape!

 

With that color of carpet I would have the very best mats made for an XJ, the whole interior is very nice.

 

For fathers day my dad bought me Weathertech mats for front, back and cargo area I really like them . They are a little more expensive and had he not gotten them for me I probably wouldn't have paid for them but it very nice. I especially like the rear passenger area mat its all one piece. The Cargo one is nice as well.

 

I've got the full set and have had em for about a year now, only negative thing is the badges will fall/break off easily. Other than that, love em. Another thing that I thought was strange, when you first get them, they are stiff, kind of a plastic feel to em. But after a few months, they turn into a soft flexible rubber like any other floor Matt. When I take em out now, they flop everywhere instead of keeping their stiff shape like when new.

I bought the car in July from the original owner. She was/is a smoker and the interior stank and was dirty, but it was complete and the seats were not ripped up.

I just cleaned it (and recovered the headliner). Now that the floorboard rust and interior are done I am looking forward to replacing the tired (>307K miles on original engine/trans) drivetrain and doing something with the suspension...

These pics were after the first pass on the front carpet. I usually wouldn't pull the carpet out to clean it, but after pressure washing the undercarriage, the carpet was soaked from the rust holes.

Nice job cleaning up that interior.

I bought these for 19.99 at Sam's Club. Don't recall a brand, just what they had as "universal" mats. Expected to upgrade later when I bought them, but they fit well and form a nice pan for wet shoes, so I'll just keep them.

They are nice and thick, not difficult to trim to fit, and form a pan more than an inch deep for mud, spills, and splashes.

They came with a rear mat that was mostly useless. I expect to use the rear mat more as a foot mat in front of the tent when camping.

Passenger side. The foil sticking out under the top left corner is foil/bubble/foil insulation. Eventually it will go under the carpet if I find a reason to pull it up again after tracking down the leaks.<br/>

 

Thanks for sharing. Do you have a shot of the driver side? Now that I bought the front RR mats, I think I'll be compelled to buy the rest of the set... I am new to XJ's but it seems like finding one in some areas without leaky/rusty floorboards is a rare find. The POR-15 kit I used worked well for me, but sealing up those floorboards was definitely a labor of love...

 

Yup. POR 15 is good stuff. I like to use Ospho to phosphate the rust before priming and painting, that has worked well. My 99 has very little rust on the unibody or floor pans. It came with an engine that was sick.

The bit of gorilla tape on the left(pics below) is in there for de-bugging a drivers side leak. Rain water was running down inside the front driver side doorframe into the carpet. I put the tape in to channel rainwater into the floor mat instead of the carpet. That last leak turned out to be from the too-loose rubber windshield gasket rather than gaps in the urethane bead holding the glass.

It 'twere a booger to figure out, but I think its all sealed up now. [Soon as I remove the tape it will leak again.]
