Default Will a rear wheel drive cherokee meet my needs?

PIC ATTACHED - I found a 2000 Cherokee Sport with 125K miles - it is a California vehicle with no rust being sold where I live in MN. It has a 4.0 I6 MPI engine with rear wheel drive.

I just want a cherokee that will be able to tow across the country 2 touring motorcycle on a small trailer (bikes totaling about 1400 to 1600lbs depending which 2 - don't know trailer weight).

Will this vehicle work for me - could it still have the 8.25 that's been suggested or not on a rear wheel drive?

Thanks!

that's a good looking cherokee.

yes it will tow that weight. matter of fact it will tow up to 5000 pounds. 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. don't matter.

it could have the 8.25 or the d35. if it has abs, it'll be the d35.

It has been suggested to look for a cherokee with the 8.25 - if this vehicle has the d35 would you turn it down for my needs?

You should be fine.
The D35 is fine in the cherokee in stock form.

you can always swap in an 8.25 or xj44 later when you find one at a good price.

it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, cause i can change a rear axle in an hour. but it will pull no problem.

price would be more of a deal breaker.
