Wife Says SELL IT!
Okay... I'm now the proud owner of ONLY Jeeps. I have an 01 Cherokee, a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, a 94 and an 89 Cherokee.
Problem is, my wife says 4 is one too many. My wife drives the 01, I drive the 98, and I need (okay, I PREFER) to have a third one to tow my firewood trailer (and to have a little extra off-road fun without worrying about body damage, etc).
My question is which do I sell?
Case for my 94: It's newer, and everything works (cruise, brights, AM/FM/CD, etc.) It also has a manual transmission. Unfortunately, it's creeping up on 200K miles.
Case for my 89: It's a 2 door Limited, and has a really neat look to it (NOT TO MENTION, FACTORY CUPHOLDERS!!!!!). Also, has just over 100K miles. Unfortunately, the brights don't work, CD player is fried, cruise control doesn't work, and a few other things... these aren't major but nickels and dimes add up.
Most importantly, I think the previous owner fried the tranny. From a stop, the Jeep starts out in a higher gear than what it should. Only if I shift manually to 1st does it have a nice takeoff.
So what should it be, guys (and Jeep gals)? Keep the 94 or the 89? Cuz the wife says one HAS to go... otherwise, I might have a lot of nights on the couch.

4.0s last forever so I would not be too concerned about the mileage on the 94. Plus the 94 has R134a which means you can recharge your A/C. Although the 89 is probably really cool with a renix. I would say keep the one with the least rust.

Personally id keep the 89. Low miles will always mean less problems. The one with close to 200k might not have problems now, but it does mean that some potentally expensive problems are just around the bend. I think the 89 will cost you less in the long run, even if it does have a few problems now. In my opinion if i saw the 2 at a car lot, id buy the 89 just because it will simply last longer. And i dont know what you want to do with the money, but if you sell the 94 then that money could help to fix the 89. Thats just my 2 cents.
Let me know which you keep, either way you've still got an XJ!

2-Door Limiteds are really rare. I'd keep that one especially if it has around 100K miles!! I had the same problem with my '90 limited with the brights and I ended up just needing two new headlights, haha. The tranny sounds like a sensor problem. I've seen a few threads on NAXJA about the very same problem and it was sensor related. I would check on there for the fix. Even if the tranny is done I would still keep the '89. Not too hard to swap in a used tranny for cheap.
I love the limiteds and have only seen one two door limited in my life.

i say keep the 89!..... if you have the time to an engine/tranny swap to the 89... well atleast tranny. altho that is because i prefer the manual over the slush box...
but if not, i would keep the newer one, engine stuff can we worked out but having a working electrical system is key in our jeeps.....
although the 2 door is rare.. . hmmm......
ever thought of HOW MANY nights on the couch??? lol

X2 "2-Door Limiteds are really rare." I say keep the '89. Probably can get more money for the '94, when sold. Which I would turn around and stick it in the '89.......JMO!
