I dragged my buddies yj around his woods, and i had bald tires. He had new mud grips and could not move my truck even when i just held the brake or put it in park, I'm at 4" and 35's, he's at 3" and 31's. So maybe the height had something to do with it. I had a video of it, but he erased it after his truck lost the pull off. That kind of made me not want one, I could get a samurai for cheaper and do the same as his yj. The only benefits I see to a wrangler is the roll bar and the fact that its shorter. But like i said samurai ftw. I miss my samurai but i wouldn't trade my xj for anything.

I really dont have a problem with wranglers. I actually want a tj. I just like making fun of stereotypes. Plus my dad has a 2012 jk so we both give eachother a hard time about eachother's rigs. He tells me that mine isnt a "jeep" and i tell him that his is to pretty to take on the trails. Its all in good fun. Heres both of our rigs. At the end of the day, there friends and whoever has the doors off gets the garage!

Oh and for the record, mine does better in the mud!

I would like to own a TJ or JK but the price of them is ridiculous. Its near impossible to find a wrangler under 6K that isnt a pile of crap. They are the most useless over priced vehicles. My friend will joke with me that I dont have a real jeep but then 3 friends load up their camping gear in my jeep and we are off. Later he asks for company cause he is bored in his YJ by him self or tries to talk to us over CB the entire time.

I'm sure I'll get a TJ for the light to moderate trails once the kids move out. just to keep the local trails fun!
Tavish, the hight of your rig has nothing to do with pulling power. You are on 35"s thus more tire on the ground = more traction than your buddies 31"s

It's not so much that the wronglers really "suck" or anything. Like I don't mind the look too much, it's just around here it's like every d***** bag owns one. And they all seem to be total a-holes. So like the other guy said the xj community is a lot better in my opinion.
And obviously 4.0. I don't think the wronglers have one, could be wrong though.
Sweet vid by the way, I like how he just open his door in the middle of that. Hope he rhino lines the interior.

I'm a TJ owner and an XJ owner. My wife and I love them both. I bought my TJ second hand (ie back off lease) 12/06 and finally paid it off like 7/11. I took out a 72mo loan to keep the pmts affordable and paid it off 6mos early. Paying that little bit extra on the principle each month really helped. I slowly built up my TJ and had really built it too much for a daily driver. When my wife's minivan got totaled, it was only natural we bought 2x XJs with the money, one each for daily driving.
The short wheelbase along with the openness of the TJ is a blast here in PA's tree-populated wheeling areas. The short wheelbase is a blessing most of the time.
In the wrangler, a roof rack gives me just as much storage as the back of my XJ. (Rather than have one on for decoration or holding a spare tire, try using it. hehe). I can take the back seat out for more interior room or leave it in and take myself and 3 friends. How often do you take a 5th person in your XJ, or even a 3rd or 4th? Most of us are solo in the vehicle at any given time or only have 1 passenger.
I can "argue" the pros and cons of each one all day, but the bottom line is that they are both great vehicles and each point can be made one way or the other for both. Too much room, too little room? Short wheelbase or long? etc... I've strapped both from easy situations, so the wheeling comparison is mute. There are too many variables to decide which is better off-road.

At the moment we have 3 jeeps 92 XJ, 98 TJ, 98 ZJ 5.9. and i like them all the TJ is the wifes and i say wrongler to get her going for fun. We use them for different things the XJ is for the harder of trails and the TJ is build for any trail i want to point it at but its for the wife to enjoy on the trails she wants to drive on her own. Zj is my DD and sometime tow rig and light trails for now. A lot of ppl on here have several.
I am on several forums as some others here and by far this forum is better and ppl seem to help more here. The others seems like if you dont know someone they dont respond much.
To the OP question the XJ is better than the TJ: It can carry more, you can sleep in it easier, more secure, more room for ppl if you want to take them, Less noise than a soft top.

Sorry guys... obviously you've never wheeled hard with them... our XJ's go through things wranglers just won't. Maybe it's the way the unibody twists for us? maybe it's the wheel base? I don't know... I like wronglers, they're alot more capable than say... hummers. (yes, I said wronglers), but no way in hell would I ever trade my XJ for one for wheeling purposes... it'd be a downgrade.
