Why are xj's better than wronglers?

BECAUSE THEY FLOAT!

jr jeep 12-21-2011 10:46 PM

Who's xj is that in the video?

Drewjharper1900 12-21-2011 10:50 PM

Couldent tell ya. Just found it clicking around on youtube.

Gatchmo5710 12-21-2011 11:11 PM

more reasons: back seat with room, storage with room, better wheel base, better looking, better community.

E-Rok 12-21-2011 11:14 PM

I really dont understand all the hatred for Wranglers on here....

andrewmp6 12-21-2011 11:20 PM

You forgot cheaper to buy but i wish the xj had a frame like the wranglers do.

explorebc4x4 12-21-2011 11:21 PM

Its funny how jk's are hated upon so much. Wranglers are pretty sweet. And honestly when I can afford it, I will probably get one. But the Xj is just so classic. I've only had an Xj for 6 months now and I love it to death. And the first time I saw one lifted about 4 years ago, I always wanted one. But the fact that the unlimited rubicon comes stock with d44's, lockers, and 4:10's is pretty enticing. But for now (and probably for a while) I'm an Xj guy. Also the Xj community is pretty unreal!

You and me both.. I would love to have one and I think they are awesome.. Having one of each would rock!

E-Rok 12-21-2011 11:23 PM

I like all jeeps but in all honestly, I see XJ's as cheap, "throw away" trail rigs.

wheel it hard, tear it all up or whatever, go buy another one for $500 and swap your parts onto that one and go

I drive cross country ALOT and I can drive 800mi in aday in my XJ, all I hear about from wrangler owners is 300mi and I'm done. Maybe the new ones fair better, but they have our suspension and have four doors, hey doesn't that make the new wranglers ummmmm........oh yeah an XJ with a frame.

TJ's have the XJ front plus rear coils

JK's have a MUCH improved suspension over any other jeep. crossover, high knucke steering etc

99 Purple XJ 12-22-2011 01:14 AM

Thats true but from what ive heard the JK front 44 has D30 shafts and axles

tavish_g 12-22-2011 04:58 AM

I dragged my buddies yj around his woods, and i had bald tires. He had new mud grips and could not move my truck even when i just held the brake or put it in park, I'm at 4" and 35's, he's at 3" and 31's. So maybe the height had something to do with it. I had a video of it, but he erased it after his truck lost the pull off. That kind of made me not want one, I could get a samurai for cheaper and do the same as his yj. The only benefits I see to a wrangler is the roll bar and the fact that its shorter. But like i said samurai ftw. I miss my samurai but i wouldn't trade my xj for anything.

I really dont have a problem with wranglers. I actually want a tj. I just like making fun of stereotypes. Plus my dad has a 2012 jk so we both give eachother a hard time about eachother's rigs. He tells me that mine isnt a "jeep" and i tell him that his is to pretty to take on the trails. Its all in good fun. Heres both of our rigs. At the end of the day, there friends and whoever has the doors off gets the garage! :D

Attachment 83754

Oh and for the record, mine does better in the mud!:boxing:

hankthetank 12-22-2011 07:57 AM

Jk's also have a 4:1 t-case I think...cool.

Just the Rubi's... That goes the same with the TJ/LJ's.. Just the Rubi's get the NP241OR 4:1 T Case

TheJerm 12-22-2011 08:07 AM

I would like to own a TJ or JK but the price of them is ridiculous. Its near impossible to find a wrangler under 6K that isnt a pile of crap. They are the most useless over priced vehicles. My friend will joke with me that I dont have a real jeep but then 3 friends load up their camping gear in my jeep and we are off. Later he asks for company cause he is bored in his YJ by him self or tries to talk to us over CB the entire time.

builtnotbought89' 12-22-2011 08:18 AM

I'm sure I'll get a TJ for the light to moderate trails once the kids move out. just to keep the local trails fun!

Tavish, the hight of your rig has nothing to do with pulling power. You are on 35"s thus more tire on the ground = more traction than your buddies 31"s

Wonder if I could stick one on the back of the old ax15...

I know it can be done with the AW4..

It's not so much that the wronglers really "suck" or anything. Like I don't mind the look too much, it's just around here it's like every d***** bag owns one. And they all seem to be total a-holes. So like the other guy said the xj community is a lot better in my opinion.
And obviously 4.0. I don't think the wronglers have one, could be wrong though.
Sweet vid by the way, I like how he just open his door in the middle of that. Hope he rhino lines the interior.

YJ and TJ WRANGLERS got the the same I4's and I6's as the XJ's until the XJ was done away with in 2001.. The TJ/LJ continued to get the I4 and I6 until 2006. In 2007 came the JK and they got a 3.8 V6. underpowered but reliable. Now for 2012 The JK got a nice power upgrade with the penstar 3.6 motor and the the 42rle was droped for a mercedes sourced 5 speed auto. I forget the specific name for that trans.. The six speed manual has stayed the same since 05 when the TJ got it.

Wrangler-envy? The hatred really makes me laugh. The first time you're driving with the top down and doors off with the wind blowing up the leg of your shorts, fapping your balls around, you'll understand.

I'm a TJ owner and an XJ owner. My wife and I love them both. I bought my TJ second hand (ie back off lease) 12/06 and finally paid it off like 7/11. I took out a 72mo loan to keep the pmts affordable and paid it off 6mos early. Paying that little bit extra on the principle each month really helped. I slowly built up my TJ and had really built it too much for a daily driver. When my wife's minivan got totaled, it was only natural we bought 2x XJs with the money, one each for daily driving.

The short wheelbase along with the openness of the TJ is a blast here in PA's tree-populated wheeling areas. The short wheelbase is a blessing most of the time.
In the wrangler, a roof rack gives me just as much storage as the back of my XJ. (Rather than have one on for decoration or holding a spare tire, try using it. hehe). I can take the back seat out for more interior room or leave it in and take myself and 3 friends. How often do you take a 5th person in your XJ, or even a 3rd or 4th? Most of us are solo in the vehicle at any given time or only have 1 passenger.

I can "argue" the pros and cons of each one all day, but the bottom line is that they are both great vehicles and each point can be made one way or the other for both. Too much room, too little room? Short wheelbase or long? etc... I've strapped both from easy situations, so the wheeling comparison is mute. There are too many variables to decide which is better off-road.

MUDRUNNER AZ 12-22-2011 11:34 AM

At the moment we have 3 jeeps 92 XJ, 98 TJ, 98 ZJ 5.9. and i like them all the TJ is the wifes and i say wrongler to get her going for fun. We use them for different things the XJ is for the harder of trails and the TJ is build for any trail i want to point it at but its for the wife to enjoy on the trails she wants to drive on her own. Zj is my DD and sometime tow rig and light trails for now. A lot of ppl on here have several.

I am on several forums as some others here and by far this forum is better and ppl seem to help more here. The others seems like if you dont know someone they dont respond much.

To the OP question the XJ is better than the TJ: It can carry more, you can sleep in it easier, more secure, more room for ppl if you want to take them, Less noise than a soft top.

Donnie_K 12-22-2011 11:40 AM

Sorry guys... obviously you've never wheeled hard with them... our XJ's go through things wranglers just won't. Maybe it's the way the unibody twists for us? maybe it's the wheel base? I don't know... I like wronglers, they're alot more capable than say... hummers. (yes, I said wronglers), but no way in hell would I ever trade my XJ for one for wheeling purposes... it'd be a downgrade.

Haha fair enough. Like I have no problem with the tj's and what not, i always park next to those and check them out. And I do hear good things about the pentastar. Just like I said, most wrongler owners (you guys keep spelling it incorrect for some reason lol) seem to be dicks, and I mean the new ones. The majority just seem to be like show trucks. I dunno, I guess it's not fair to the vehicle, I'm sure it would be fun to drive. But they're just kind of sullied in my opinion. Kind of dudes that wear "Ed hardy" and tap out shirt d-bags. (might get some flak for that but oh well)

caged 12-22-2011 12:09 PM

i have two tj's on 33's and 2 xj's and a 49 willys.

i like the xj for the trails, but the tj's work just as good, sometimes even better than my long arm xj.

around here, the only real snobby wrangler guys are the rubi drivers.

But thats all speculation since we don't know for sure.. Just something I picked up from watching the vid..

mithuth 12-22-2011 12:52 PM

Cuz we all know that driver, tires, air pressure, lockers etc.. has NOTHING to do with it. Not to mention a youtube video on the internet definitely ends the argument for life. xj > Wrangler. lol

Metalgearmurder 12-22-2011 01:17 PM

I think you are high... wranglers are just as capable as an xj and vise versa. Only diff. is the frame which makes for a sturdier platform for suspension mods etc.. and cargo space. Its a jeep! quit being such a homo

Gatchmo5710 12-22-2011 01:38 PM

this is stupid. who cares. my cherokee is better than most wranglers, some wranglers are better then most cherokees. it all just depends what your doing and how your jeep is equipped. you just cant compare them
