i like doorless and chopped. doorless gives you better views on trails and u get more air, driving on the street people look at your jeep more, and its funny when u see wranglers with tops on and doors on on nice days when your driving a doorless cherokee.personally i like the chop tops. some make them really nice and fab up a soft top and make them look awesome. i love davevmax's rig and hopefully my 2 door will look as good as that when it gets chopped. all depends on whose cutting it and how much time they spend on making it nice.

Again, I don't care for them, Besides I want my things (and myself) protected from the elements. If I wanted something that I couldn't really carry anything with me, I would of just gotten an ATV. Chopped just kills the practicality aspect.

dave's looks great, but that's because it's a 2 door and looks factory.
but would look silly with the doors off.
now for a hack job 2 or 4 door chop or even just with doors removed looks just pure dumb. even a civic with lambo doors looks better with the doors up.
now if it's a built truggy with full cage and built properly, then they can look pretty good with attention to the rear where the hatch was.
i like shawn's old rig from tri-city, built xj truggy with cj/yj widened rear.
i'm with the op, love the boxy xj, why try to re-invent the wheel...

Why take the doors off?
Because they're broke
Because its hot n your AC only pumps air for your tires
Because you can't see the things you need to run over.
Because it makes it look cool
Why chop the top off?
Because a tree fell on it and the roof gets in your way now.
Because you want to put a full roll cage inside but don't have enough headroom with that pesky roof there.
Because your xj cost less than your nephews new bicycle and its fun.
That pretty much sums it up.

I had my doors off today, and I'm covered in mud. While driving home I made a guy in a semi lifted, doorless Wrangler's mouth drop when he saw the XJ. Made me chuckle. Some chops are nice, others aren't. I personally like the look of soft top Cherokees. But it comes down to do whatever you want or like to your Jeep.
nope i was talking about the folks who chop their tops and have an open roof like wranglers. daves is sealed like a truck cab.
