Default Where to buy a new starter?

The starter on my '99 XJ just went out - AZ and Advanced both want $140. I am finding them on eBay for roughly $60.

Any recommendations on a good site to buy one for a good price with fast shipping?

I got my starter a couple months ago from Advance for about $100, can't remember the brand, but not one of the crappy ones.

That's why I'm asking. I really don't want to buy something online that is not going to last.

If you had time/desire to do it yourself you can get a rebuild kit for ~$30. Only special tool you need it a small gear/bearing puller. (and really, you probably don't even need to replace the bearings)

Dang, looks like it's just your year that is crazy expensive. Mine cost half what yours do.

I'd say whatever you buy, make sure it has a lifetime warranty.

I'd rather just buy the unit altogether and be done with it, time is the issue.

I'm definitely looking for a lifetime warranty. Go figure mine would be the most expensive.

Yeah. 99 was the year that they switched to a more expensive type of starter, I forget the specifics. You can retrofit an older one but it requires light modding. If you wanna just get it and be done with it I'm not sure there's much of a choice for ya lol.

Wow. I have a 99 and had no idea there was a difference. (Haven't had to look at it yet)

I'll have to bookmark that.

I had the starter tested today. It passed 3 times in a row on the machine, but then started smoking so it was determined to be bad. Can they rebuild it in this case?

Rockauto sells em new and remanufactured.

I can get a remanufactured PURE ENERGY starter for $74 w/ core trade in or I can get a brand new starter from REMY for $129 with no core trade in (they don't offer it). Anyone ever deal with these mfg's before? What do you guys think?
