Throwing HID's in a H4 housing is illegal, even if you have aim them properly, though you are unlikely to be pulled over.
Having HID's in a higher temperature (over 5000K) is illegal, and easy to spot, which increases your chances of getting caught.
If you want to get HID's legally, its going to be a major pain in the ***.
You have to find a DOT approved housing FOR HID's. The only ones i know about are Sylvania Xenarcs which were discontinued due to quality issues. Due to this the kits including them cost ALOT ($1000+)
If you are only off roading go crazy, but legal HIDs for highway use are not economically practical.
Its really annoying no company makes a legal kit, but thank the NHSTA for that... they were fining company's producing good HID kits...

I just got some 31x10.5x15 rims and tires but they are used. Tires have about 30% tread left so not a lot of life left, but want to see what a 31" tire 15" rim would be like. Bought 4 for $125 so not bad. Do I need a 2" lift if I'm going to run 31's? I don't go hardcore wheeling just offroad a bit to hunt.

Nice looking XJ! First think I'd do is take off that white Sport decal
I always thought they looked cheap... I also agree that tinting the lenses would look good on it along with some larger tires and blacking out the wheels.
Just saw your above post... Here's 31's on stock suspension

They only scrup at full turn on the road but do tend to scrub pretty bad when flexing, especially if you have the sways disconnected... I'd recommend at least a 2 inch BB if you'll be offroad much... I have a 3inch lift for mine but haven't had the time to install it yet

Why not lighten up? The sealed beams are Sylvania Silverstars, best white light I've found, wish they lasted longer. Beyond that it's up to your imagination.

Just use it like a Jeep, no one can tell you whats cool. who cares what everyone else thinks. It's funny how long I have had my second jeep (over 15 years) now I see all these guys running black wheels and roof racks.....things I did 12 years ago......Lifted XJ's were rare when I got into jeeps.

Haha ya guys I have done a little bit extra and will post some new pics. I've got clear signals, blackout taillights and offside lights on the bumper.
