What are some of the quirks thar your XJ has? You know the things that happen like as if he/she is just teasing you lol.


Here's mine:
I was driving in the rain today, and I turned off my wipers and (sometimes the switch doesn't go all the way back down without help) and it would freeze the wipers on my windshield.
For some reason her radio won't pick up FM stations but AM comes in clear as a bell. Discovered a nice local news program to listen to in the morning. Wouldn't have found it without my XJs "help" lol.
And last but not least. My door locks once in a blue moon wont engage from the drivers side.
All these things make me smile for some reason. Any other vehicle, and my blood would boil. LMFAO.
How much personality does your rig have?

both my front door locks will jam if its humid or below freezing. Rear doors like to stick shut for no apparent reason. The death wobble/steering shimmies are temp dependent, apparently there is enough bushing left that heat or cold affects it. I can trace every interior rattle noise, but there are no loose pieces rattling.
last but not least, every 4 months like clockwork it will dump 1/4 quart of ATF and fail to start on the first crank, then be fine on the second crank. I call it XJ PMS.

My XJ isn't fond of wet weather sometimes too.

mines got a leaky check valve so I gotta prime it to start it. the front doors fly freely when they are open, there's no hinge to stop them from moving. I get a little jingle noise when I go over big bumps..haven't been able to track it down. my driver door locks but the lock button is busted in the car.

not to shabby for a 14 year old car.

Occasionally, when I unlock all the doors, My wife hop's in the passenger side door.

My rear, passenger seat belt always locks up when I'm in park. I have to put down my rear seat and put it back up again to free it for my passengers.

Rather than asking what 'quirks' some of us have, might be easier to ask what NORMALITY our xj's have lol. Sometimes I think my rig is one big quirk.

My XJ gets better has mileage in the city than on the freeway

My windshield wipers come on at will when the lights are on. Turn lights off wipers go off lights on doesn't just make the wipers run they come on when they want but only go off if I turn lights off. Finally ran a switch in line with the fuse so I can make them stay off?

Ha!! I've had that happen to me as well.

When i pull the wiper stalk to spray it turns my stereo off until I release.
My hatch handle takes a few hard yanks to open when it's hot
My drivers side rear door has a broken connector in the door panel so there's a rhythm you have to use when opening it to get it to open
I have to do the infamous "poor mans prime" and it's getting old lol
When I pop my hood I have to hit it in a very specific spot to be he stuck side to open

My hatch comes unlatched at random times, but never seems to do it while wheeling.
My 4x4 light stays on in 2wd, and goes off as soon as I put it in 4x4.
My fuel gauge always reads 1/8 of a tank lower than what I actually have.
My shift light is completely useless, stays on pretty much all the time, until I take my foot of the gas. Even comes on sometimes in 5th gear and reverse.

my gas gauge needle goes left every time I accelerate. weird

On my '89 that I'm driving here in Canada:
Gas gauge reads backwards & the needle goes all over the place when I make turns.
Randomly RPMs go up to 3kish on start up for about 10 seconds.
Same thing as Unknown, sometimes the wipers stop in the middle of the windshield lol.
Oh and sorta nifty, I can remove my keys from the ignition when its running.
Mirrors barely adjust


On my '99 back in Michigan:
None of the lock cylinders work, and occasionally the wireless unlock FOB doesn't work
Only picks up radio stations sometimes

Mine has buckets of personality. My speedometer randomly works. My lights inside will come on at weird times. My drivers door you have to push below the handle to open it. Hatch is the same way and the best scariest one is my passenger side door will randomly just come open driving around. Usually taking turns with no sway bars when my girlfriend is with me. She really hates it
