I am thinking about building a rat rod out of crap i have laying around. I have like 3 cherokee shells and a few motors. my plan is to cut off cargo area and move hatch forward to behind rear door. Then chop it. cut front completely off infront of front doors. cut out florr and body drop onto a custom tube frame. then bag it so it will sit low but be able to drive. and if i cant find an old school 30s grille maybe throw a cj grille up front.

Think this is a good idea or am i just an idiot?

Has anyone ever seen anything like it?

I say go for it! It's a cool and unique idea. I would put the CJ grille up front instead of a something from the '30s, that way it's all Jeep!

If you do decide to do this, I hope you make a build thread.

I think it's a great idea. I've seen pics of a Rat-Rod built from an FJ40 Toyota but can't find them now. It's cool as all heck.

JP did an article on one made from a FSJ Waggy a few years ago. Love to see one made from an XJ. I'm considering dropping my YJ, already got a lifted Jeep so don't need another one.

i think the best rat rod look for the cherokee would be to slam it with some fat tires on the back and a flame on black paint job. put some ladder bars (for the look) and run a turbo with megasquirt for engine management. then you would have a hot rod that is a sleeper

 

i have been thinking alot about doing something very close to that with my 2 dr cherokee.. i have alot of ideas just not sure how to do them all

 

i dont like rod's thats just my opinion, why not build a big beast out of one of em
