Many schools of thought on this topic. Some carry the very basics, like the factory spare tire, jack, and wrench. Others carry much more. Some include spare parts for common failures. Many include survival items. I made a list of things I think are all-inclusive. Of course you may not want to carry all of this all the time, but at least the list will remind you of things YOU think you should carry. I don't currently have all of this in my Jeep either, but I am getting there.

It's funny how thread topics go through a cycle. It starts, gets a little traction, slows down, dies, and then the same topic is posted up a few months later on. There was one of these threads earlier this year (spring?) And one around this time last year that I remember because the op said he carried more gear for winter. Just thought I'd share my random thoughts

And yes Martlor... I agree... haven't been here that long yet... but I've been an admin at other sites and am a strong believer in "search" before you post.
Even breathing life into an older thread is better than clutter as it makes searching more productive.

Was gonna say the same thing haha...I just carry my tools and a couple other odds an ends daily driving. Only time i have more stuff is when I'm going out a ways or wheeling.

Im sure Im forgetting a couple things, but thats the basic list.

Daily driver i have the normal spare and jack stuff,fire extinguisher and first aid kit.Off road and winter time i throw in my recovery bag which is has gloves tow straps and shackles.I keep a life straw in the glove box of everything i have owned.On me is always a 1911 and a pocket knife.

Is the 1911 so that when youre hungry you can have some jam?

i have a few duffel bags. one i bring if it's a short trip out with just recovery gear. then another with some extended items such as tools, fluids and small parts, which i leave at home unless i'm going at least a day away, then another with spare parts, extended tool kit and other essentials for when i'm going for a weekend or longer.

as for spare tire/highlift jack, paracord, emergency kit, fire extinguisher, etc, that's all hard mounted in the jeep, so it's always there.

Ok guys... Bugout4X4 is going to take this gentleman's six on this huge list. lol

90 % of Arizona is still unpopulated wilderness and this list is actually about normal for any SMART Az rig that makes long offroad treks out here. You are indeed in survival bugout mode because most of the time on treks like this we can be 30 or 40 miles away from even cell phone service, and tow trucks will not come off road to get you. And at least one firearm is very important because it is not uncommon to get out in the middle of nowhere and have to face off a mountain lion (we have a lot of lions), or even more often border crossing gangsters transporting drugs who are armed. You cannot get caught south of interstate 8 out in the desert without plenty of personal protection, it's not a friendly place and they will steal your rig in a heartbeat to go back to the border and use it to transport more. The BLM even has signs put up warning of this reality.

His wise list is pretty much the same as ours when we go out on long runs here. They can turn into a very real survival situation in a heartbeat.

bugout, i think most of us agree that his list is great for wheeling or adventures like you say. I carry quite a but as well. But at all times? No not at all because I need to carry other things in my daily life when I'm not out wheeling. I just wouldn't fit haha...i think most peoples list of what they take when wheeling or exploriing is pplretty much the same except for a few differentitems here and there.

I'm going to guess that he probably doesn't carry all this unless he is going out. But in turn from what I have gathered so far he goes out very often. So if this is the case I would leave most of it loaded up and ready to go myself unless for some reason I needed to make room to haul something else and then I would put it back.

I keep a couple milk crates with most of the stuff on his list in the back of mine all the time because we will be going from point to point, which is a long ways apart, and see a road leading off in to the wilderness and just have to go see what's up there. Because of this habit to leave the main road and go exploring it is better to have it than to not have it.

Too many times we wished we had left it loaded because we got caught with our pants down. In fact... There is one thing he doesn't have on his list that I keep rolled up in the jeep at all times... A backpack to carry parts and water in if I have to hike to civilization and back to make the jeep run. And I have needed this quite a few times over the years in different rigs.

His list looks like a lot, but actually other than the gas and water it will all fit in two milk crates and easy to load and unload as needed.

^^^ completely agree.... as a former desert rat myself... what you carry in any vehicle you drive there as bugout supplies... can be significantly different than what you'd carry in other states. One of the things I always carried besides the first jug of water... were supplies needed in order to continue making more water. The deserts of AZ are no joke. And you've gotta have some Bear Grylls skills to make it... at least the basics for survival. For both heat and cold... yes... cold in the desert... many times I've been in those deserts overnight and seen actual frost on the cactus. When people say AZ they think of nothing but heat...but in reality, deserts around the world have the biggest temperature swings from day to night than anywhere else. Can be 95 F in the day...and below freezing that same night. Just the way it is..so gotta know how to bugout right.

Also like the AR-15 item on the list above...lol
Personally I like my SA-40...but in the desert environment I'd probably go with a revolver...better suited and less issues in heat/sand.

The AR-15 goes in both the truck and the jeep. If for whatever reason my AR isnt there, my alternative is a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Also carry a PT111 G2 and a LCP at all times. :gu nsmilie:

I've shot everything under the sun literally... good buddy of mine had his own gun shop for years...and when someone would come in with an unusual one... he'd put it in back for himself.

I just got back to the states...but my CC is still valid...so gonna get another one. I always had a Springfield Armory XD40 Mod2 as my CC.
AR's are fun.. another buddy has one and I've shot it a number of times.
You might think I'm crazy...but one of my "old school" guns makes me grin every time I shoot it... a single shot 20 gauge shotgun. The extractor spring on it is so strong that I swear it kicks the spent shell as far back as the shot goes forward. lol. Super fun with clays.
I love being back in a country that you can legally own and use firearms.... not having them kinda gives you a feeling like someone just walked up and kicked your dog right in front of you, and not a damn thing you can do about it. lol.
