I just did the same thing. No crazy light improvement I can see but the light spread/pattern of the new headlights is much better.

Not much done today. I was hooking my steering gear back up and discovered my new cotter pins are a tad too thick. So that killed that until I pick up the correct ones.
Then since it hadn't been started in a couple months I decided that it was time so I cranked it up. It started for a brief second, then stalled. I tried again and all it did was turnover, no start.
I got out and discovered that the hose clamp attached rubber fuel line that someone put on came loose and I spewed gas all over my fresh front axle install and on my garage floor. So far, I have cleaned up the Jeep as well as I can get to everything and scrubbed the garage floor twice.
I need to find a factory fuel line from the fuel rail to under the Jeep where it hooks into the line that runs to the rear.

Posting for the first time in a while. Life takes strange turns. What did I do to my jeep today? Well, right before I went on my honeymoon, like the day before, I rolled my jeep on it's driver's side. I had JUST fixed my front door catching on my front fender, was so pleased that I could open the door all the way.so today, I beat the fender back into place, bent the door back in place, rebent my fuel door, and took out the remaining glass in my rear driver side window, cut up a cardboard box to use as a template for some sheet metal. Messed up the cuts on the cardboard but finally have no wind inside my jeep, can roll up my driver's side window again to boot. A window will never again fit in the channel for the rear window, I can't get it shaped right. REALLY need a roll cage!

Installed my new to me junkyard fender and header panel today. The top pic is the before. You can see the bondo and scratches on the header panel, and the silver paint on the fender from the PO. It has always bothered me. The panels from the junkyard match perfectly. I am super happy with the outcome. An afternoon well spent in my book

Another >500 mile RT to Grand Junction.
Thru Avon, then back through Aspen and Independence pass this time.
Last time was through Montrose and back via Hotchkiss and the North rim of the Black Canyon.
Headed back Monday.
Screw going through Aspen!
Independence Pass Eastbound nearing Sunset
Near Cochetopa Dome
I was compelled to climb up The Devil's Kitchen. CO National Monument
Blue Mesa Reservoir. Low low :/
Last gaze West over Independence Pass.

Tried not to beat the hell out of it~!
*btw: These Korean A/S tires seem SUPER.
353k and still kicking. We finally went to the bat cave last night at Orient Land Trust.
I can see why someone would have built this old structure.

Now that I have pushed my front end out to get my wheel base correct, front driveshaft is right on verge of the short side. I’ve installed an SYE on my rear. Does anyone happen to know off hand if the yoke on front diff and rear diff are the same? Reason I’m asking is based upon the length, I can’t find any lengthened front shafts. And my last experience with the driveshaft shop wasn’t a postive experience( slip yoke still sloppy even though I paid to have fixed…..project took to long for me to go back and complain now, long story short). I’m considering purchasing another double cardigan rear shaft to put in the front. Rear shaft is the length I need and it seems to be simple solution..
Also trying to save some work by pulling my rear and trying.

Bought a Tekton 250 lb ft torque wrench for the hub nuts since my Pittsburgh only goes to 150. Torqued both nuts to 150 using the Pittsburgh and then 150 using the Tekton. It clicked without any extra rotation i could feel, so i set the Tekton to 175. The nut went a little more, and click. As far as im concerned, they are torqued to spec.
Got the Tekton off . Im happy with it.

I installed a hitch mounted tire carrier that I made. I still have to complete the fold down table for it and change out a bit of hardware but it's mostly complete and it's functional.

I sanded and painted my turbines I got from a junkyard. It was alot of work but I think they turned out well. I sanded to get them real smooth and get the oxidation and pitting out. Then used self etching primer, raptor liners glass black wheel paint, and then their diamond clear coat. Hopefully it holds up. I know I did not paint them like traditional turbines, but I've always been a fan of all black turbines with the chrome center cap.

After watching a a genius video on YouTube:
I decided my XJ needed it too. Simple concept, but a wonderful addition. Funny part is that after removing 3 wires from by positive terminal, only 1 was being used (prior owner, not me). Doesn’t matter, my battery terminals are completely clear now.

Next up, front shocks. Pulled from a donor Jeep today.

Speaking of rear tire carriers, do they really put significant stress on the unibody? I'd like to consider one, but I don't want to create any issues down the road. It would have a factory aluminum wheel with a 235/75-15 tire on it.
I'm no expert, so FWIW...when I got my XJ it was gov't surplus from Univ. NV and was used extensively off road by their Bio Dept (filled to the gills with desert dust when I cleaned its frame out). When first driving it, I drove it over a speed bump which made me feel like I was riding a wet noodle. So, I bought some frame stiffeners and then paid a shop to let me use their welding gear (the owner, an expert welder, periodically checked my work). IMO those stiffeners proved to be the best thing I've done and made all the difference in the world. If I were to get another XJ, l'd consider this to be a good thing to do right off the bat regardless of my use of the vehicle. Guess that there's potential ups/downs for anything one does, this one add on, so far, has proven to be a good payoff.

Well last week I installed these for my trip to Ouray CO. for the FSJ invasion.
Yeah I know!
I took an Xj to an FSJ thing.
Ran a few trails up there, and had a great time.
Just some of the fun:
Next year I should have one of mine ready to take up there?
