I'm always on the look out for wrecked Jeeps to pull spares I can store in my garage. I've got quite a collection going right now. I need to go by the Junkyard today and pull the rain gutter molding off of their only XJ there. If it's still there this fall I may get all of the glass out of it that's left.

So I finally got my new throttle body on. Wondering why on earth I waited so long for this, then the $300 price tag reminds me. :P
Still, a quality upgrade. Feels like I have just found the missing puzzle piece as my little rig just came ALIVE. Runs about 150 RPM lower idle. Less gas pedal required to get to speeds. I don't wheel but if I did, I'll bet it would be better on the trails too.
I also finished my front doors' seals--and they are so quiet that I absolutely must do the rear seals because now that's all I hear. Last time I went with weatherstripdepot I think but I believe Quadratec has them cheaper...

I wish I had space for a couple parts Jeeps. Parts are only going to get harder to find.

You were OK with the aftermarket door seals?
We had this guy here who built this awesome rig awhile back. Did 2 actually.
Used aftermarket on his first one and didn't care for them. Went Mopar of the second rig and said they were so much better.
Of course the Mopar ones were over a $100 a pop at the time. LOL.

Yeah I have a bored throttle body waiting in the wings to put on too.

Bought aftermarket door seals for it too, as it still had the factory ones it with chunks missing. Have two problems with them. Pass side seems to leak at the top with a heavy rain, and drivers side leaks at the bottom just behind the bend where it starts to turn upward.. So will be trying to figure those two spots out.

Trying to track down a small exhaust leak on the XJ. Only hear it under heavy load. Found the junction for the header and downpipe to be loose so replaced the studs/nuts and put in a new donut gasket there.
I have been having a rattling in the front end for a while as well. I have been writing it off as a loose brake dust shield but when I was under there dealing with the exhaust gasket I found the driver's control arm loose and when I looked closer found both the bushings on that control arm had backed out from their bores and were just kind of floating in the control arm.
After I finished up the exhaust issue I pulled the control arm and took them to press them back in and found the control arm bores are now oversized. So I tack welded the bushings to the control arms for a temp fix and ordered some 2004 Grand Cherokee lower control arms.
Yeah they just used more glue later on. I pulled these off of a 96 and they used quite a bit of glue on them I bent them up a bit but when I put them back on they straightened back out.

So today I figured cause it was going to rain and haven't really done anything since I went back to work would do something concerning the rear seat headrest mod on the porch.
Decided since the front seats are Agate would run a Agate rear seat. Picked the worse back and bottom to use out of the 2 sets I have.
Going clean it up the best I can today and that is it.
But one thing I am going to try is the painting the carpet on the back of the upper part with that SEM Color Coat I tried out on the door inset.
It is made for carpet. Going to get covered with the seat cover eventually so figured lets give it a shot.
But not today cause I want to try on a less humid day.

Good times with stamped steel suspension.
I still have an exhaust leak so after the Jeep cools off today I'll be hooking my smoke tester to the exhaust and see if I can spot the leak that route. Right now I'm thinking the header is cracked.

Thank you, Downs, for the video. It is nice to see somebody explaining what they are thinking. Just thinking out loud here, but those stock control arms lasted over 200K? That's pretty impressive.

So I got some time off of work for the next few days. I work in a restaurant, we're in slow season, and yeah, COVID makes it worse than normal so I'm not complaining about not having to go back until Thursday.
This means I no longer have any excuses. I'm getting the oil pump, oil pan and gasket done this week. Got the Rotella T6 at O'Reillys, and I have all the parts in the garage.
Only one thing:

The best part of the whole experience was when I discovered that BBK supplied the funky, never used star bit with the little pin in the middle in the box with the throttle body. I had previously broke a couple of bits in the past attempting to take the IAT sensor housing apart (you have to transfer it over from the old one and they used red locktite from the factory).
Anyways, I'm all smiles driving her now. Still up for debate about gas mileage savings as I seem to be putting my foot in it all the time right now.

Jeep currently shows 215k on the odometer. Going off of past registration records I think that's 20-30k low and one of the previous owners replaced the speedometer at some point. I'm guessing these were the factory original arms because when I replaced bushings 2 years ago you could still make out the Chrysler logo and part of a P/N on them.

I replaced my stock UCA/LCA last summer at 225K. I don't believe this Jeep has ever been on a trail and I only put 12K a year on her so they were in pretty decent shape in my opinion. If I didn't already have the parts I could have just swapped out the bushings but I did so it all got replaced. It looked like all the heat and pressure of the suspension system had eaten up the rubber bushings over the years.
