I pulled the leaf springs out to do bushings and center pins, but I didn't realize the shackle bushings are bad too, so hopefully I can find them locally somewhere and get that done tomorrow. Got my first oil analysis on this Jeep back. Looks like its got a coolant leak at he head which is probably whats causing the increased bearing materials in the oil.

Im seeing no signs of losing or burning coolant though. No drops in radiator or resiviour levels, no sweet smells from exhaust and no evidence of coolant in oil. Im going to do a test strip test on the coolant and see what it says.

Looks like a top end refresh may be in my future. :/

Got angry at it. Lol.

Developed a rough idle and stumbling low power when driving. Also hard to start without giving it gas when cranking.
No codes. Fuel pressure tester looked like good pressure though it might be faulty as it sucked gas into the gauge.
Cant wait to try and track down whatever is causing it.

Electrical? Check your grounds and battery leads for corrosion. Maybe take to an Autozone or whatever and have them test the battery and alternator?

It's been slow going, mostly doing the leaf spring stuff, and doing easier things whenever I get tired of fighting those bolts, but I have my disc conversion mostly ready to go...

Made a crossmember for my shock towers, drove it with the half doors on. Was a good day.

Got started on a few minor things to get my son's Jeep back up to perfect.
  • 4 new shocks because 18yr old ones started to leak.
  • End Links, because having these break-off wouldn't be fun
  • New Cat-back exhaust. Nothing fancy, just new stainless and quiet as this won't be an off-roader. With only 85k on her clock, the previous owner didn't drive much and thus water rusted it from the inside out.
  • Valve Cover Gasket to fix a small leak on the rear side.
  • Will take her in for an alignment once all is done. Thankfully a buddy of mine owns a shop and will help get her squared away.

Couple picks of what I was looking at.

My sons new to him baby for reference.

Kinda amazing that the OEM shocks lasted 18 years without ever being replaced. Isn't it recommended to replace shocks every 50K miles?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Never had a car that's this old. Our minivan was 12yrs and had 127k on it with the stockers and it was okay, no leaks.

This Jeep is like brand new. I don't think the original owner had it out in snow much as the underside is like new. No rust or anything outside the exhaust and leaf spring which is just surface rust.

Should ride pretty nicely once done. Valve Cover is done as of tonight. I have most of the day tomorrow and will finish the rest.

Finally installed the new magnaflow muffler and cat yesterday, had to install a front pipe as well. Sound is good and i believe that my cat was clogged since the jeep moves better now. It could be just perception.

Why does your exhaust hang down so low?

Got shipping confirmation for the '01 Durango 160 amp alternator I'm hopefully swapping in. With headlights and rear heater on the voltage would drop unless over ~1200rpms. Also had to park it as the drivers side rear caliper siezed up...it was only 2 years old from the black magic brakes swap. Those should be here Monday, but I swapped over to driving the ZJ...man I wish the XJ had the 5.2! It's so much more fun to drive.
