But because the collection tube was significantly larger in diameter there was no resistance at all until it got to the turbo vanes. They had the short outlet pieces aimed so that they created a pre-swirl in the larger tube on it's way to the turbo. Always wondered if this might be something to play with.

I was thinking more of how the 2000-01 headers are. 3-2-1. It seems like the very bottom collector is the one that always cracks cause of how many tubes go into it. The 2000-01 only have 2 pipes going in to the last collector. You dont hear of many of them cracking.

I see! and I think that is a great idea. That header is not smart enough to know it's on the wrong year engine! lol But know what? like I mentioned earlier, if I put those on they would be adapted to run dual exhaust. The only real tight spot I see is between the TC output and the subframe, but it looks like it might just squeeze through there for the left side pipe.

Think the O2 sensors on the right side would get hot enough with only 3 cylinders going through it?

Ordered ball joints for the Cherokee so that whenever I finally get around to sleeves and c gussets I can put new ball joints in too instead of frying my old ones, and I got a piece of pipe welded in the Comanche to temporarily replace the muffler till I fix the backfiring. I just couldn't stand the noise level in the cab anymore.

Back in the day we used to take cast manifolds and cut and weld them into what we called "spit manifold" dual exhaust systems. I don't know if it was because of the firing order or what, but they really sounded GOOD! lol
I've got a set of 2pc. Hedman Headers for a 258 CJ out in the garage that can be run into a collector or as duals. Not saying they'd even come close to fitting though. But the ones in the pic above seem do be doable.

Hey! these are just AMC's right? Look what I found. Just plug the AIR system ports and make a head pipe. lol

Default removed serpentine belt, replaced pulley

it wasn't today, but it was a couple of months ago-- i removed my serpentine belt (first time!) & replaced the idler pulley to fix a squeal... it's still squealing.

Quoting myself for context. I am happy to report that when I started my Jeep this morning the exhaust leak was gone. Drove about 50 miles today and the JB Weld Extreme Heat is still holding strong. I knew it could handle the heat because I have seen regular JB Weld survive inside the combustion chamber of a cylinder head for more than a year of driving.

My understanding was that this was only for the 00 and newer split manifolds but you can't bolt a split manifold to the older heads due to port size. I honestly would like to know how much work it would take to put a split header onto my 97. Even if not for running dual exhaust managing the exhaust manifold would be so much easier.

The one I posted is a Pacesetter 70-1190. Made for 99 and before. I dont like it though. Its not a true tri-y. If it was, they would have done cylinder 1, 3 and 5 on one collector and 2, 4 and 6 in the other (following the firing order). Not too sure its possible due to space limitations though.
