I finally got my wiring figured out so I can use a factory fog light switch for my led light bar on the bumper. My xj did not come with fog lights, so I picked up the panel and switch at the jy. Thanks to my wire tracker I got at harbor freight. Now the light bar works independently without the key on. It was pretty simple...I placed a jumper in the fuse box and attached the trigger wire to the blue wire behind the drivers side headlight. I used the wiring harness that came with the light bar. It had one of those stupid stick on push button switches with 3 wires (I only used the red wire). I ended up cutting the yellow wire off of the relay since I'm not using that switch. I only had to run wires under the hood. Oh and I removed the cigarette lighter for an eBay usb plug. Now I just have to tidy up and secure the wires then I'm done for today.
I put factory fogs in a '00 that did not come with them.
So the shot with the Jumper Wire confuses me a bit. Since my '00 did not come with fogs it was missing the 2 relays in the fuse box. But also could have sworn that there was no terminals to plug relays into in there either. So what is that jumper wire connected to?

The terminals for the fog light relay were there so I just took the +12v (constant on) and jumped it to the terminal that fed back to the factory switch (purple wire). I have a 98 classic.

I must have missed something. So the instead of me using the fuse tap I could have done the jumper like you did and that would have supplied the 12V run source to the switch? Shouldn't there be some sort of fuse in there though? I ask all this because I might modify my set up.

I'll have to double check tonight, but I believe that the circuit has a fuse inside the cabin (10A passenger kick plate). Typically a fuse is placed before it hits the relay.

If you could that would great. And I will have to look at my fuse box in the engine compartment again to see if there are terminals in mine where the fog light relays would go. If I missed that and you are right about the fuse in the cabin I could have done a cleaner job of installing those fog lights, not cut the purple wire (for the 12V run source), and not done the whole fuse tap thing. And I was so proud of my job too. LOL.
EDIT: I checked my fuse box and don't see any terminals in mine. Thinking something might be different between an '98 Classic and a '00 Sport. Will look one more time when it gets lighter out. If I don't have the terminals at least I don't feel so bad about how I wired in the fog lights now. LOL.
Christmas present to me is finally on. New bumper, 13000lbs winch. Still have to hook up the wires to the battery. Going to get into the upper 40's so I can finish then.

I just checked and the terminal is fused under the hood. I changed it from a 15A fuse to a 10A (location 25) since I'm only using it as a trigger wire. I'm pointing to it in the picture.

Thank you for going through all that trouble but I did confirm that I don't even have terminals for relays in the three spots towards the overflow reservoir side. I do have a relay, AC, farthest from there. So I could not have done it that way even if I was smart enough to figure it out like you did. Can I post what you did on my thread for the fog light install? Since your Jeep does have terminals in that one relay spot means others might too. They could do it your way to hook a 12V run source for the factory switch. I assumed that if your '97 to '01 XJ did not come with fog lights then it would be like mine. As usual I was wrong. LOL. Promise to give you credit in the thread. LOL.

My 99 Sport didn't come with fog lights, and I wanted to add them. The switch wire was there, and when a switch was plugged into it, would even light up. However, there were no terminals in the relay box, and no wiring that would go to the lights themselves. The dealer installed fog light kit included all the wiring from the battery to the switch and to the lights, along with a stand alone relay. It also included the switch and 3 space switch plate.
I just bought a Chevy Cruze, and again, it didn't include fog lights and I wanted them. In this case, the kit came with a replacement headlight switch with fog button, the lights and mounting hardware, and the wiring harness that runs from the relay box to the lights. Interesting thing about it is that the relay was already there, but with no terminal on the output side. The light harness had a single bare terminal that had to be fed into in the bottom of the relay box to connect to that relay.
installed the front shaft today, yep no brainer after installing a new joint in it.
then pulled it back out, my old CAD axle was ready to gernade itself, everything was worn out.
So pulled axle from a parts rig.
Well its been a while since i had to regear the D35, So figured today was good day.
Wrong.
its got slop in the pinion, and a terrible vibration with the shaft in.
Guess this weekend, I'll pull a ring/pinion from a parts rig with a CAD.

Exhaust hanger, bleed the brakes, changed oil, checked fluids, wired aux fan to switch, mounted Rusty's Tcase skid, drove it for the first time since October
Did front and rear dif. service... also did the TC too.
And learned something new about my XJ that I was not previously aware of.... she's equipped with 3.55 gears and LSD.
Doing a LSD upgrade was something I wanted to do at some point... so I can cross that one off my list..... that makes me happy.
