Drove it to work this morning and it didnt stall, which is nice. Also replaced sway bar qd pins yesterday and got the tires to correct pressure.

So i dont know much of the history of my jeep and ive found some disturbing things. A loose control arm, pads passed the metal, today a loose shock. Then i noticed this thing-a-ma-jiggy hanging down. Anyone have any insight to where it goes and what it does?

Differential or transfer case breather, I think , look at the top right corner of the differential housing from the back, around 2 o'clock if think of it like a clock, and see if there is a vent tube if theres not that's where it goes.

Bingo. It's a breather for sure. Bulbous thingy looks like a check valve so I don't believe it's from the transfer case or any axle.

It looks like a broken vacuum check valve or breather. Does your XJ have a CAD D30 axle?
