Drove 7 hours from St Louis to Chattanooga to pick up this little camper. Turned around and drove another 7 straight back. Wife has no excuses to not camp now, and having a kitchen on board makes camping with an 8 month old much easier. Anyway...
I was going up a super steep grade doing like 75 the whole time, kind of seeing how well the jeep would handle the trailer. Pulled over to get some lunch and sure enough, I pushed some tranny fluid up out the breather. It didn't leak again the next 6 hours but I went really easy on it.
Where do I get a get a good tranny cooler? I know folks like b&m. Anyone make a kit for the xj so I don't have to make some ghetto bracket to mount it?
Love the little tear drop, can you take some more pictures of it. Hope you got a good deal on it.
I hope my XJ handles towing my trailer, it will be about the same size but a little heavier (quite a bit heavier). You can always pull a tranny cooler at the Scrap Yard off a Grand Cherokee. I have a 5-spd so pulling those mountain passes will be interesting.

What kinda camper? My dad had a 5 speed and we towed the pop-up loaded with gear every year with no issues

Ran over to a local JY and bought a steel wheel and then had the tire mounted. It's nice to finally have a full size spare tire. I had a flat last weekend and I was freaked out and embarrassed to only have a donut. Oil change today.

I replaced my D35, with a Craigslist Chrysler 8.25
Cost of the axle was $100
Installation was $200
I lost the LSD, but I'm planning to add a locker in the future.
I had a shop quote three times as much for the D35 rebuild.
The gears in my 8.25 were really pitted and spalling so I replaced them with a Spartan Lunchbox Locker last week. Wow, are they great! It's quieter and the traction is amazing.

Actual winter tires. Mastercraft Glacier Grip II. I stongly considered AT's but I decided to wait until spring when I can better afford a full set of AT's. That, and I need to find a place to store my winter tires between now and the end of April.
Installed the CCV vacuum harness' from Dorman on my 89. Really only needed the VC cover grommets but as they are hard to find I just spent $35 and got the entire unit. Along with Cruiser 54's Tips on cleaning grounds, I've added the blower motor and battery ground upgrades, Putco headlight harness with upgraded relays, H4 Hellas, headlight switch, plugs, wires, cap & rotor in the last couple weeks. Also sourced a set of rear shoulder belts, haven't decided whether to do it myself or let local shop do it that quoted me $125.
Painted the bumpers and lower door moulding and rockers today. I like it much better with the flat black. Also cleaned the engine bay so it looks good for the car show tomorrow.

Got it running again after accidentally dumping in gas with high water content a couple days ago. Lucky for me it has a new battery. Let it warm up a bit and realized that part of the problem must have been ice inside the fuel injectors. I have to say, the 4.0L sounds pretty good running on 5-ish cylinders!

First of all, what he said. Drop it into third, and it will do a lot less thrashing back and forth between gears, and that will generate less heat and be easier on your fuel economy.
Second, as to the cooler, don't overthink this. There are a lot of good brands, and yeah, you are going to have to make a bracket. Go bigger rather than smaller, and here's the really controversial advice:
Put it BEFORE the radiator, not after like most people do. Here's why:
You will dump more heat out if it's installed before the radiator than if it's installed after the radiator cooler.
That heat is being dumped to the AIR, instead of being dumped into your engine coolant.
In summer, that will make you less likely to overheat your engine.
In winter, going through the radiator cooler last will ensure that you don't over-cool the transmission. (Yes, you can over-cool the transmission.)
after driving on a rainy day i put it in the barn to check carpet after doing major work to get dry. carpet was dripping water. i gave up for the day, frustrated on water leaks.dont know what to do. pull carpet??
