I'd agree with trimming away excess material to allow for unrestricted movement from the suspension, but Idk if you wanna stuff the rear any more. Those leaves look pretty flat in the one pic and if you start to exceed flat you really detriment their life. Consider extending the BS's when you trim.

 

Those leafs are getting replaced next spring because they are only AAL It is also the reason I made my own relocation brackets instead of buying a set from HD Offroad, I had just gotten tired of being beaten up every time I hit a bump in the road and the DIY brackets cost all of $15 counting welding wire

My XJ will never be a hardcore offroad rig and will spend 80% of its time driving on maintained roads and most of the offroad diving will be on trails like the one I took the pictures on. That trail is not too difficult, this is just a little ATV offshoot that I was dared to drive by some kid on a quad earlier in the year and may be 100 feet long. The rest of the trail is just rutted and rough double track that leads to a good fishing spot. It is an out and back trail that is about 2.5 miles in total and easy enough that most of the time I am in 2 wheel drive.

 

Coax connector showed up this morning. So the antenna is connected to the not wired up cb

 

Did a little wrenching this morning. Replaced the old worn ORIGINAL shocks on my 96. 3 of the 4 were totally shot out and the third had a little push left, lol. New ones installed and boy what a BIG difference! Unfortunately the original owner( guy i got it from) wasted the leaf springs pretty badly. They are bent upwards. Those will be replaced when i go to lift it.

Got the driver side bolt for the front skid off. That's right... It was so hard to get to.

installed some fender flares i made. Just gotta patch all the holes i put in em from screws and paint em black tomorrow.

 

Oil change, Rotella synthetic blend T5 10w30 . Gotta address the leaky valve cover. Only had about 4.5qts out of 6 without the filter to recycle.

 

Yeah, I only had 2.5qts in the pan after my last change. I need to do my RMS, but I'm lazy and stubborn

 

Yikes, do you guys not check your oil very often?

 

I like those what'd you make them out of? Those would look awesome black on mine I've been trying to save for flat flares from Napier but other parts keep draining that lol

 

I've never gotten as much oil out as I put in. My last oil change I recovered 5 out of 6 quarts. I'm sure there's some in the filter that I can't (or don't want to) get out. That said, the dip stick still read fine

Before I replaced my valve cover gasket, I'd have to add 1-2 quarts of oil between oil changes, and had plenty of burning oil smell after taking a ride. Got bad enough that I didn't just have the smell, but also had smoke. After replacing the gasket, smoke and smell is gone, and it was only down maybe 1/2 a quart when I changed the oil. Still got the leaking OFA adapter, but that's just going to leak.

 

If you want a sturdy flare option, call a landscaping company ask if they have any recycled aluminum yard edging, you may have to pay a buck or two to get some but I was lucky the place I went just gave me some. The most I spent was 6$ for some stainless nut and bolts for mounting. I think I have pics up in my profile you can see if not here are a couple to give you an idea.

 

they're made out of PVC trim. Cost me like $30. i have scrap wood and tools that i used to save on cost. im gonna paint em black tomorrow. just couldnt tonight since it was raining and i was gonna spraypaint in the garage.
