ugh, that drives me nuts! I've been driving my wife's tj to work for the past week and every time i see another one i wave (out of habit) they never wave back...
Reset the base timing on my 91 after I bumped the oil pump drive out of position. I couldn't get to the #1 plug because of heater hoses and AC compressor, but I figured out #6 is on the other side of the cam cycle, so I pulled that plug and held my finger while a buddy turned the crank, then he rotated one more revolution to get to #1 blind. Set the oil pump drive to point to #1 on the cap, and reinstalled the distributor. Started right up and purred like a kitten.
Also installed one of my newly rebuilt driveshafts. It doesn't really have a vibe but there is a very slight rumble. I will give it a couple of days to break in and then test the other rebuilt driveshaft to see how it works.
Measured the driveshaft length I need for the front, so I can shorten it. I also Took out my drag link. Measured the length I really needed, gonna narrow it and weld it up tomorrow.
Ha! After what I spent on these leaf springs? No, the flex should be incredible when I'm done. The problem is the angles are too high, even with 6° shims front and rear pointing the pinions down. I can't turn left (much like Derek Zoolander) because the drag link hits the passenger side leaf spring.
The new perches will be closer to the axle tube, and the correct angles will give more steering clearance. I'm also eyeing the Rocky Road OTT HiSteer, but that's gonna have to wait
Replaced the Fuel Pump wasn't hard at all the 2 most time consuming objects for me was the red lock tab on the fuel pump connector couldn't get that damn thing to unlock and also the fuel pump lock ring that was a pain to get threaded back on, it kept getting lopsided . Overall pretty easy.
Mounted these to the rook basket. One front one rear. Waiting on the wiring harness. That will be next weekends project.
Nice! I don't think I'd be able to do that around here.... too afraid someone would steal them.

OMG DUDE!!! YOU PUT A COMBUSTIBLE BOMB IN YOUR GAS YANK?!?!?! ARE YOU NUTS??????
Gave my 1999 XJ w/ 96K miles it's first tune up. I say that only because I pulled Champion plugs and red Mopar wires off/out of it. Don't believe the previous owners were much for regular maintenance. Used the Accel TST16 kit, all went well. Cranked right up and has smooth idle and strong acceleration. Question, though - anyone know of a picture or diagram of the plug wire routing? I didn't do a very good job of routing them the way they were originally. I've googled, but no luck. Thanks!!
