Wasn't ALL today but the CB Antenna install was…

I use to have a short magnetic cb antenna until it got bucked of the hood and ran over upon my entry into this rut a few weekends back… lmao



I have never liked how CB antennas looked on rigs thats why I ran with the magnetic base style so I could remove it when not using the CB. But I decided to go with a fixed antenna this time and I found a pretty clean way to install it.
Pretty happy with how it looks. I attached it behind the fender and drilled a hole for it to come thru the fender on.

 

You don't need to get all the rust off, just the heavy flakes.

From their site:
Just don't paint it over nuts or bolts you may want to remove in the future, don't ask me how I know

 

Use a Flap Disk, the rust will be gone in seconds. For the harder to reach areas, try a 2" diameter rotary wire brush that goes in a drill.
Naval Jelly? I thought that only works on paint.

 

This thread supports my idea that the low temperature was my problem. I don't have a good way of keeping it warm without bringing it inside, but I'll try heating it up before putting on some naval jelly. If that works, I'll put off the rest of the rust removal until warm weather returns.

I'd feel a lot more certain that the rust was really stopped if there was none to start with. Haha, I bet that sucked, I'll be taking those bolts off first before painting!

Maybe it's not a Scotch pad. It's for taking paint off and working the naval jelly slowly into the rust instead of flinging it around like I would with a rotary wire brush. I used a wire brush a couple times, but didn't take it down to bare metal because I wanted to see what it would take to make the naval jelly work...if it got a little help. At least now I can see a couple bright spots in the rust.

I was really wanting to see the naval jelly work because there's some rust on the wheels that would be impossible to reach with a brush.

What's funny is that naval jelly says it'll remove paint as a side effect, but if it's having any effect, I can't tell. I was hoping for more of the side effect.

 

Ripped the front bumper off the Jeep and painted my B. Lee bumper and letting it dry for install tomorrow.

I used to use steel wool to get rust off of chrome parts when I worked at a bike shop. Have you tried that?

 

Changed the engine and transmission oil, and air filter. Because crappy fram tool is crappy, I had to improvise with a home made strap wrench to get the filter off. It worked great.

 

Installed my new Dynomax exhaust. No more exhaust leaks!

 

I was given an old Realistic TRC-465. Now to try find a decent antenna and cable for it, all they seem to sell in stores around here are magnet mount shorties. I would like a bumper mount whip

 

Day 3 of trying to get rust off the bumper with naval jelly. I tried getting the temperature up with a heat gun, and that helped, but it also dried out naval jelly really fast even when spraying it occasionally with water. That's the end of that. I started putting on POR-15 half an hour ago. If it continues to rust, that just guarantees it getting replaced with a nice bumper. Unfortunately it means I won't be doing the wheels this winter, except maybe simply cleaning it and covering it up with POR-15 and paint to make them pretty until I replace them.

I hit the rub strips and flares with the heat gun. Now they're black again.

That would work great on light rust, but this stuff is tough as hell. It doesn't even make sense.
