If you still have them around February, I just might!!!
So I could delete that valve and still have full control of temperature for AC and heater?
But, it doesn't work that way.
I live in Arizona and use AC all the time. There is no downside to eliminating that valve. Factory did it in 97.
The downside of keeping it is liability. When they bust in half with no warning, the engine loses a ton of coolant real quickly.
Here's my PERSONAL favorite.
Pull the 88 into the garage to do an oil change. Nice and warm. In the process of removing the oil filter, my left arm contacts that valve. It immediately splits in two pieces and sprays my upper body in 200* coolant.......

Depends on how you want to do it. I just hacked the bottom of mine clear off with no intentions on sealing them. Could always just cut the inner away and fold the outer shell over.

What size tire are you wanting to squeeze in there and how much of a stretch?

I'll need min. 3" stretch to run 38s. The way I see it at least. I don't want anymore lift. Might wait til I get the rear mocked up up and set one in, go from there.... Your going sterling huh? I'm debating between that an 14 bolt.
