Great input/info from both your posts. You are making more sense of it than we are. Thank you.

I'm good at that

Thanks for listening. A lot of people here tend to disregard whatever I say lately.

I guess I'm not making sense of what I am trying to say. Oh well though. Either way I'm leaving my hood lifted.

Haven't hooked up the sending unit yet but it's all wired up. The pod gauge isn't a perfect fit but that's close enough.

I understood well what you were getting at. I saw a remark on another forum that came to the same conclusion as you did. He was a firefighter/paramedic.
But his post was flamed by a following remark.

Funny how two Firefighters that haven't seen each other post didn't even know that the other even existed would come up with the same point. I mean sure, the speed at which to cause this to happen SHOULD kill the driver on its own, but what if it doesn't. And what if the stars a line. Is this why the engineers didn't lift the hood in the first place? A lot of what ifs. And I don't live my life based on "what if," but a part of me wants to know. Could it happen?

It'd have to go completely through the windshield first without structural fatigue, after an impact so severe that all three latches broke.

and it would have to go through the wind shield, which is a pretty tough piece of glass, and whatever hit you or you hit would have to be tall enough to even effect the hood of your lifted xj, I don't see any reason for concern

Trying to think of ideas on armoring the rear hatch to fix the damage from being rear ended. Damage isn't too bad

Your newer model hatch is steel. Couldn't you remove the interior panel and knock out the dent with a rubber mallet?

Mine is steel. I'm going to try and see if I can take the interior panel off but it's most likely spot welded in places

Was the cooler installed in the Explorer in the same way, with hoses pointing down? I understand air can get trapped in the top of cooler and reduce its capacity.

Yes
