Drove it to buy another one, '94 XJ Sport 4dr 4.0 5spd for $500!!! Pretty clean too, rocker rust and little floor rust, clutch went and the 17yo kid didn't want to pay a shop to do it. PO was his grandma since new!

Started gathering parts for the '97 XJ's 4.7 stroker build today. I just picked this 4.2 short block up for the crank, rods and balancer.
It came out of a 77 Gremlin and appears to be the original engine for the car. I'll know for sure after I get inside it and pull the rotating assembly (tomorrow) but it should have the 12 counterweight crank and 707 rods. The crank still rotates freely and there wasn't any rust in the cylinder bores so that's a good sign.
Next up I'll be ordering the 677P Sealed Power pistons (.060 over) and getting the dishes enlarged out to 30cc. The deeper dish will be necessary to maintain adequate CR for regular gas since I'll also be zero decking the block and running a .043 (compressed) MLS gasket. The cam will be a factory replacement ('96-'99) piece from Melling.

ordered a rebuilt head for it and stared into the engine bay for about 30 minutes while drinking beer, looks so open with head and intake/exhaust manifolds out.
any tips for when I install the new head?
