I recently bought this great 89 XJ already built. I could not pass it up. It far exceeds my humble mechanical skills and I love the beast. Anyway I can't figure out what the thing is mounted inside on my roof between the sun visors. It has some kind of circuit board sticking out of it. The other mystery is that every time I turn off the engine something under the dash on the passenger side beeps three times. Any clues??

are the beeps maybe your radio? or a car alarm or something to that effect?

 

The beeps would be your radio. Mine does the same thing, about 4 or 5 seconds after i take the key out of the ignition. I think it is to remind you to pop it out and take it with you.

 

does it have an aftermarket cd player with removable face? I used to have one that would beep when I turned off my car.

That is the factory keyless entry system. The beeps I am not sure of though.
