I would say between these two, the civic hatch would be better although it has 288xxx miles, so normal issues with that will need to be addressed. The other car just seems like it has more problems than what its worth doing. Window was smashed and everything stolen, could have lots of problems plus a window is gone.

I bet that 240 was dogged. I'd go with the civic. It's probably in running shape and you can fix the little things as you need to instead of fixing the window, the exhaust, the tires etc.

X2 civic engines are easy to swap and rebuild, atleast up till like 99 but that hatch looks like maybe 90 or 91 idk I dont remember if it said what year plus civic parts are as easy to find as jeep parts are. There are so many and there are so many in the junk yard too. A swap would be easy if you have to

IMO, it's an easy choice. The civic is the clear winner. Great gas mileage, good in snow(front wheel drive) and all the windows are intact! If you are buying a beater to deliver pizzas, why would you want to spend more money and swap the engine though? Drive it until it breaks, then craigslist it for $500 to $600 bucks. The ricers LOVE honda civic hatchbacks. Had a friend sell his on CL for $650 and his phone rang off the hook. And it had a cracked head.
I'm in the same boat, I put close to 25000 miles on my Cherokee delivering pizzas part time in the last year, and at 15mpg and $3.35 per gallon, it's definately more cost effect to garage the XJ and buy a beater.

mine had well over 300k on the org motor... just change the oil and timing belt which if the timing belt breaks... it will not hurt the motor...
and if you get bored you can swap in a 2.2 turbo motor...

My parents got one when I was a teen. They acquired it secondhand from my aunt, they had it parked on the street when they had a flood.
It was sunk completely.
My dad changed the oil, added coolant a water pump and new air filter and time up. It had about 180k on it then. We drove it for about 2 years. No further service. I don't think it ever had an oil change. But it never had issues and always ran an started.
We finally had to get rid of it when the family friend we leant it lost the keys.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but I just had to say those things are stout little cars.
