Default what is this?

What is this? I left the plug on top of it off when I last changed my oil on new years day. I just noticed it today, and am wondering if it would cause any trouble not being connected. Thanks.

ok so what does the round piece with the plug do? That's the plug I left off. It runs into the firewall near the washer reservoir.
