Went to look at the '96 Cherokee today...
Well, it seems ok. Does have some rust in the floorboards by the rocker panel. Apparently it was a government vehicle owned in this state. It has 72,000 miles on it. Carfax comes up clean. Said something about having a police chassis? Thought it was unibody lol. Cooling system needs to be flushed. Only problem I saw was it was having a problem going out of four wheel drive (no indicator let up either). But it was in four wheel. Steering seemed to be a hair wobbly. Dad always told be to back up once back in two wheel and that is what finally took it out.
I owe about $3600 on my 2006 F-150 XL. It has 81K on it. He is offering the Jeep as a straight up trade and I inspect for Maryland. Carfax comes up clean on it.According to KBB my truck is worth $5500. He would pay it off. I would not have a payment anymore and the truck is in my and my (now estranged) wife's name. Right now I know she'd sign the title. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

has that jeep ever sat? 71,000 miles is abnormally low. if it's never sat for more than 6 months I'd value a 96 in perfect condition at $3200. low miles don't really add a substantial value and if it has sat walk away right now. mine sat for 2 years and everything is bad it's getting expensive

Police package came with some bundled factory options. Extended idle switch, recovery hooks, tow package, and usually engine, transfer case, and gas tank skids. I had a 96 that was an old forest service XJ that had the police package.
Mine also had the D35 with limited slip.
