Hi All
I have purchased my first Jeep Cherokee which is a Limited SE 4.0L Auto it has a service history (dealer) up to 37500 miles and according to the service handbook it should have one at 45000 miles.
After finding a helpful dealer he informed me that a full 45k service (due to being in storage for 10 years) would cost £349 or approx $500 my questions are in your opinion is this
A. A good price for a dealer full service?
B. I can do this myself but would it devalue to Jeep considering it's low mileage?
I paid £1200 approx $1800 for the Jeep which I consider to a bargain.

doing your own work on it doesn't remove any value from the vehicle. However, keeping a log of what you've done - i.e. the date, part(s) replaced, and vehicle mileage at the time of service - definitely makes it easier to sell later on (God forbid you do this, but sometimes a "new" XJ needs to replace an old one). Plus, it lets you go back through your own records to see when you need to do preventative maintenance (oil change, coolant flush, tranny flush, diff flush, etc). I say do it yourself and save some money.

I'm not sure what the service entails but I'd suspect it's a full lube job, chassis and engine, full tuneup, and maybe a coolant flush as well as new fluids in the transmission and axles. This is something you can do yourself.
As for devaluing it... a jeep is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. I have no idea what the go for on your side of the pond, but that seems like a heck of a price for those miles.

I think I will do it myself and keep a record as suggested.
As for the value of Jeeps over here most Cherokee's go for between £500 - £3000 (newest) and mileage is never this low as most have done 100k + miles.
Apart from some scratches on top of the rear centre bumper it is almost perfect condition.
I am really pleased and have always wanted one since I was a teenager when they first came to the UK.

You got one heck of a deal for the mileage. It looks brand new! Congrats on the purchase. Like everyone else said, just do the service yourself, and save some money. As long as you keep a log, it won't lose any value weather you do the service, or the dealership.
