Default using 2 different tires

iv been looking around for a set of 31s, and a guy offered me some 31s with about 80% tread on them but they aren't a matching set 2 match each other and the other 2 match each other, i forget what kind he said they were but he said they had similar tread pattern. what is the ups/downs to running 2 different tires. i mean besides 1 might have a different type of rubber and wear faster. is it not a good idea to run different tires? should i just pass on them and keep on looking.

It would depend on the height of the tires. If the difference in height between the two sets is just a 1/4 inch or so no problems, if the difference is one or more inches it maybe better to just pass them up. Also run the pairs on the same axle, and if you aren't getting a killer price. Pass on them.
