I may have been lucky, but I had really good luck with the '73-'79 Ford F-series; Probably because they could be kept together with bailing twine and duct tape, and serviced with a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench!

X2 on that...my old 75 starts up faster then my cherokee.lol Still has a ton of power and very little problems for being over 30 years old...only downfall is she's a little cold blooded.lol

My 73 Blazer looks like it's been in a war zone for the last 12 years! I still love it though. Still fires right up after two pumps on the accelerator. I have taken it all over hell and back and no matter what it just keeps on going. A little electrical tape here, some zip ties there, you don't even need the key to start it anymore.. Only the fuel gauge and oil pressure gauges work, no stereo, 1 ton axles locked up. It's big, it's black, and I call it Oprah.

A 225 Slant Six is damn near impossible to kill.

the slant six would outlast the car that it was in . as popular as the toyota trucks were you dont see them around but you still see lots of cherokees.

You still see a lot of old Toyota trucks outside of the rust belt. They're usually driven into the ground, but still running with a for sale sign in the window asking way too much. The old solid front axle Toyota trucks go for more money than the IFS trucks around my area. The Toyota dealer had a very clean 85 Toyota 4x4 with only 40k miles on it just last year, it sold for $8,000!
