Trimming Fenders disadvantages?
im really thinking about trimming my fenders but im just curious whats the bad outcomes of doing it?
i told my uncle i was gonna do it after i got my lift and he said it was a stupid idea because within a year after trimming it, it would start to rust and everything

Rubber lining will not slow or stop rust. Prime/paint the bare metal, then put your lining on. Make the paint flat so the adhesive will grab better than gloss paint. Mine's been trimmed about 6 years now & I still have no rust. IMO flareless fenders look unfinished, but so many like that look. Get some flares or re-use the stock flares. It's been done.
Edit: As for disadvantages ... I haven't seen any so far except that having no flares eliminates any type of support to the fender so it's likely to bend more easily. But I have flares.

some states require fender flares and/or mudflaps by law...
Just sayin'... didn't stop me though...

My point is its your Jeep. Do what you like and keep doing it. Jeeps have the most customization of all vehicles.
I am going to be trimming mine soon on my ZJ. I downloaded the install instructions from bushwacker for the cut-out fender flares for when I actually cough up the $500 for them but until then I will have the clearance needed.

It will sling more mud a debri up and scuff your paint a little. That's why I bedlinered the bottom of mine.I painted all the bare metal after trimming and then RTVd the heck out of the small fold cuts just for a little xtra rust protection
