Make sure everything is serviced on it, fix the ball joint for sure, and carry some tools with you just in case. I traveled the country in my 1997 XJ with 190K miles and a 4.5' lift and put roughly 7K miles on it with no problems.

I did over 2400 miles this past summer. From Texas to Illinois, then back to Texas via Kentucky and Tennessee. It rocked out like a champ. Only problem I had was almost running out of gas in the middle of nowhere Arkansas on a Sunday, and no stations I could find had pay-at-the-pump.....heh.

replace that ball joint, get it aligned and make sure the tires are balanced. Check all your fluids, pack a bag of common XJ tools just in case, and you should be good.
