Transmission dipstick location
Well, I was looking at the owners manual for my 98 grand cherokee laredo 4.0L and it says the dipstick should be on the passenger side like in my old xj. However in mine it's on the drivers side like the v8 zj's. Also my dipstick doesn't seem to fit right. I'm starting to wonder if maybe the tranny has been replaced and they used one from a v8 and didn't switch out the dipstick? If someone has both, could you measure them and tell me if one is longer than the other?

My 95 ZJ with the 4.0 is the same way. I've always wondered it that was right or not, my buddy that owns a tranny shop told me it was correct. Some came with the tube on the right (makes more sense), and some came with the tube on the left (kind of goofy).

So is there a different length stick depending on tube location? When I push the dipstick back in after checking the fluid, it pops back up almost an inch( I'm just guessing here. It might be closer to a half). I was starting to think the stick was to long and was hitting the pan making it pop back out a bit. Or if you could write down the numbers off yours, I could check mine.
