I am trying to find out if someone knows where i can find the TCU i am hoping that replacing it will help with the bad shifting problem that i am having.

 

I'm not positive about a 1998 XJ but, in all of the 95 and older XJs as you sit in the front passenger seat take your left hand and feel up under the dash right in front of your left leg, just to the right of the center console. It is a silver colored thing that is about the size of a CD disc drive with 1 long narrow electrical connector going to it.

 

I just checked my wifes 01 and it is not in the same spot. I'll do some research and find it.

 

What little info I found doing a quick google search says it is located under the center console for 97-01 XJs.

 

thanks for the help i have the truck bed lining on the floor of my XJ so its not hard to get under that thanks for all of the help.

 

Let us know where you find it so we will know for future reference. I know the older XJs had it up by the glove box as described earlier but am at a loss for the later XJs.

 

Have you cehcked to see if your TPS is within spec range? That is usually the problem with shifiting in our AW4's
